Modding Car Wasting Money???

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

to manufacturers, apart from those high ends e.g. lambo, ferrari, constructing cars that cant be mod is doomed to close shop..y?

how wld a tai tai know what is akrapovic? or ppl, who juz see car as another mode of transport (taking u from point A to B ), want volker sparks plug or any racing coilover? majority who buy cars came from these groups..and so when u have some car with all or some mods, demands drop..sales volume sure drop shit..

nevertheless cant entirely say modding is unhealthy..its a hobby ,so not much rationale one..anyway, u only live once..

To ppl who likes modding, buying higher end cars like lambo or ferrari would mean paying those 'moddings' in advance, apart from those hardcores and those who go track competitions..

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

we mod our cars....cha bors mod their hair, nails, botox etc.... :p

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

everyone also have to go thru the process of modding to truly experience it. no words can describe the feeling.

manufacturers dun give u all coz
they can rip you off later. they just need to put ///M and u will buy liao.

just to point out, ur mod might not be appreciated by others especially when u sell your car. (MW say now)
engine tuning for extra power vs reliability is another issue. short term fun or long lasting

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

For me, I buy a car for the purpose of Modding. It's the thrill, fun and satisfaction! I walk to work everyday and I use my car mainly to drive my wife around. If I don't mod, what the f**k I buy a car for?!!! Life is short and you only live once! So MOD, MOD and MOD!

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

i mod because the car does not come with the "options" that i want or ridiculous pricing by AD (ie: bodykit, bigger wheel, CF addons, etc)
i agree with what kenn mentioned that if the car comes with "near perfect" package to individual requirement, i will keep it stock
hence, my next bimmer must be fully customised thru PI

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

mate,
if you look at the $$ spent....you are absolutely right!
however personally, modding and enjoying the personalized ride and satisfaction (sometimes even dissatisfaction) is a personal matter and i will not consider it a waste...else i wont even change the standard oem rim valve caps.
btw, i am approaching the BIG 50 and have been modding since i was 18 and have never consider it a waste.

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

well....tis is one topic that we can 'argue' till the cows go around the world 7 X then come home but still nothing conclusive can come out of it......Modding = Waste $$ ?? Maybe....but more importantly, mod within your means if u really need to 8)

Actually i think the higher up the range you go, the more mod parts become available.

One can easily spend 40-50k to do up a 335i, and even more on an M3 !!

most imptly for the 335i, set aside S$1k for the HPFP eh? :lol2:

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

Putting in regional context, our modding costs as a % of the car prices is not excessive.

The US guys are far worse in this aspect. Cost of their cars are a fraction of ours, but parts cost similar, less shipping and freight. Labour cannot be that much cheaper. And some of them spent as much, if not more, than us in modding costs. Granted, they do not have the COE constraint, but the mod funds on a car could be as huge as the car prices themselves.

Could you say they are more irrational?

Or should we say they are more passionate?

Some of them save on labour. Americans have a knack for DIY and many of them have their own workshops in their own backyards. Think it's something embedded in their culture.

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

in the usa, it's at least a 335 or M3 to start with
the result from mod is so much enticing

mod within ones means....well said bro

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

I have to agree with you that modding car is wasting money..but depends on whether you know what you are actually spending on and getting into. A few scenarios I have noted from the Conti and JDM scene:

1. Buy high temp brake pads for street driving. In the end, you hardly get the brakes to work in the operating temp.
2. Installing metallic clutches on manual cars for street driving...and in the end sell away because cannot tahan the rough engagement. Or no idea that flywheel and tranny would suffer.
3. Installing shorter final drive ratio, thinking got quick acceleration damn shiok. Eventually cannot tahan high rpm in highway driving and regret.
4. Installing 3 way adjustable coilovers, but never using the functions as intended.
5. Bucket seat purely for aesthetic purposes.

List goes on...

Will not comment on external aesthetic mods as that's up to personal taste.

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

Well, there are some unique tuned up car, like Alpina BMW. It is unique unlike ///M. No need mod somemore. Does any1 owns a Alpina in Sg?

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

waste of money..whichever way i look at it. especially if u r after performance gains. better just buy the next model up. but for aesthetic purposes (AND SOUND!!),.......its worth it. sound to me is worth 50hp.

Re: Modding Car Wasting Money???

Modding to me is a form of ROC (relax one corner) for me.. Yes e amount spend will not be getting back 100% but e end completion part is :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Either u stay stock all e way or welcome to e CLUB !! :)

Cheers ~~ :)

for me: No mod, No life ~~~ :laughlik:
