I can tell you its the way you run-in / drive the car. I never had a single issue with my differential cause I ran in my car at 99 bends. TIGHT CORNERS BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. You have to get the differentials to work on tight corners. You dont have to drive fast to do this. Just get your speed up and do some tight turns. It will loosen up the differential.

Those of you having problems I recommend a fresh rear differential oil change and perform the below.

Upon differential installation, and fluid top off, proceed to drive vehicle to a controlled
area where several circles/figure eights can be performed. Drive vehicle (at idle speed) in
20 figure eights, full lock to full lock. Then drive (at idle speed) in 20 full lock circles
left, 20 full lock circles right.

Should solve your problem. I know 2 people who tried it and it went away. Give it a try!

I am very sure i am not driving the car hard enough. I hardly get a chance to drive the car hard cos my office is just 3+km from my house The car is barely warmed up when i reach the office every morning. I used to live near 99 bend, but had a few close shaves caused by them damn bikers. They were cycling so slowly and either stray to the middle of the road or cause vehicles to overtake on opposite side of the road. That place is dangerous man.

If it does'nt its gonna sound weird on cold starts. It normally goes off after its completely warmed up. Nothing wrong at all but it's due to the crown gears in the differential still being too "tight" in that sense.

Diff noises are prevalent on E46 M3s in particular low speed lock to lock.

I added BMW's recommended FM oil to my E46 and noise was gone within 500km thereabouts.

I can't say I notice any noise on my E92.

Planetary gears aren't too bad. The clutch pack type on my Evo 9 with high preload sounds like someone forging a sword.

Some carpark figure of eights lock to lock at low speed should resolve the problem.

M3 PI wont go wrong. $80k saving can buy u a brand new M3 engine + gearbox. Sing dollar now very strong.

i will go for PI too if I am looking for M3. Buy cheap sell cheap and save more if ur car under financing.

Went for some late night driving last night and took the car to the 99 bend...speechless...This car is absolute porn in the bends. The way the car moves in tandem with your steering input every step of the way and it's poise is sublime. Damn, those M engineers are good

Not too sure about the speed, but there is no need to go at insane speed to enjoy it. DSC was certainly on.

since we are on this topic, I would like to ask a noob question.

What exactly is covered by warranty that I cannot do outside? My main concern is in product recalls (ie change connections/accelerator jam etc). In this case, who can I turn to, assuming my PI can't help? Can I turn to PML/MA in the first place? Without adoption? Afterall, if it is a recall, the manufacturer has the obligation to make good the product.

I understand if it is a "service enhancement", but what about a recall?

Without adoption, u are basically on your own. I don't think u are gonna be able to get your ride recalled and serviced for whatever the recall entails. My main reason for adoption isn't so much for warranty or recall, but for major repair if ever the need arises. Another important reason is also because i like the coffee at MA

I have heard bad things about it from frens. This is an open forum, so i don't want to say things that i can't substantiate in case it gets messy. Anyway, i will be heading in to MBM soon for a checkup and potential warranty claim. If they try to f*** me around, i will be sure to share it here.

From my experience with MBM, they are generally quite good with servicing and checks thoroughly for any problems... Serviced a few of my cars there (not PI or under their warranty)...

I guess it really depends on who is the service advisor that is responsible for your car...

Bro, I wouldn't worry too much. I think the potential buyer would appreciate more if you sell $30K lower than agent's car than for you to pay for adoption to try sell the car at higher price.

I'm having the noise as well when turning. It sounds like something rubbing at the rear wheels when turning? Rear diffierential oil prob as well? Ride is merely 15K km...

It is most likely the rear differential oil requiring a change... My car required a change in less than 10K... Another solution is to drive your car in a figure of eight for about 10 rounds or so... It should solve the problem....

Just a thought, is Malaysia Auto Bavaria an option for doing recalls?

Since recalls are generally few and far between and if Auto Bavaria does cover "international" bimmers for recalls, then going in Malaysia will be an viable option for PI units...

I would suggest that people talk to Hendra at MA on a one-to-one basis to see if something can be worked out. It doesn't cost anything to talk to him, but with an open mind. They are a lot nicer than u imagined.

Yeah bro, my experience after doing servicing with them was pleasant as well. My initial concern was due to a fren's dodgy experience with warranty claim.
