man, sorry to hear that. i had a defective battery that conked out in its first year but no explosion (touch wood).
did PML do the complete check? it may not be able to detect battery issues like that. do you know when the battery was installed?

Hope all is well now.
Last time I saw this was when a SAF 5 tonner battery exploded. The battery is located right under the vehicle commander's ass.

With with the bad experience, positive thinking would be now it is all-good-to-go. Cannot imagine the anger or 'OMFG feeling' if it exploded after June especially when u paid for a complete car check in mid Feb.basker;991050 said:

To be fair, I am not sure if there are any ways to detect this. For this alone, I feel safer that battery is behind =) glad you are fine =)

The old way was a multimeter and a torchlight to see the dryness of the battery.
The battery actually discharges gases while charging. Or it may be that the car was overcharging the battery.

maintenance free battery is NOT dry battery ,there still lead acid inside but all sealed.
battery explosion could be battery internal short circuit (very rare for Premium quality type)
and also battery terminal connection corroded or loose terminal.
