Need advice on car ownership transfer before car insurance

Re: Need advice on car ownership transfer before car insurance

No way unless you are car dealer. LTA need to check the new insurance under new owner name when they process the transfer at the counter.

you can get a cover note from the insurance to facilitate the transfer. A cover note is non binding, hence you don't have to sign on the insurance if you don't want to at the end of the day.

However, it is illegal to drive a car without a valid insurance on singapore roads. Therefore, unless you just want to park the car at home in your garage...Not even car park....

Thank you very much for your invaluable info.
Luckily, I got the insurance covered note before I went to LTA for vehicle ownership transfer. If not, I would have to come to LTA again for the transfer.

it can be done lah... coz i didn't buy my insurance form PML. So i provided them with a cover note for the registration of my car.

having said that, if you auctioned for a car and intend to sell it very fat, you shouldn't transfer it at all. The reason is that it actually adds one more owner to the list of owners.

What you can do is to approach some of the second hand car dealer, get them to take over the car, ie transfer to their company, and cover the car via their company insurance. They will charge you a fee for it. But it won't be too much.. and it doesn't add one more owner to the list.
