New Alpine 2-Din

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

i want.... singapore have??? will it fit my E46 coupe? will it work with the steering wheel controlls?

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

Most likely you will need to mod AC vents (lower part of the 2DIN). If I recall correctly, the spacing is less than 12cm. Alternatively, build a larger enclosure, but it will protrude from your facia. Looks weird.

Thanks for the great link, been following CES to see who else has been announcing stuff... :)

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

Looking at the Alpine specs, the dept is 16.5cm. Which means modification to the AC vent is a must. This is the greatest disadvantage. Don't know of anybody doing it in Singapore.

Cost: Considering the Apline 310 cost about SGD$2100, I would think the 2-Din would cost about SGD$2000.

The 2-Din bezel (black frame) cost about US$250 including postage.

One advantage is that the new Alpine is Ipod ready. With just an additional cable (US$30), you can connect an Ipod with full data display. It is also Nav ready, except that they won't have Singapore Map and I suspect it is unlikely that it will support KingMap or MapKing.

BUt nobody here is prepared to mod the air-con yet!!

So near yet so far!

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

I have the right thing you need to hold the air-con controls if anyone is interested?

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

14m3, Yes, pls let me know more. I want to shift the a/c vents down, and swap my 701 up right next to my 310. In fact I want my 310 in the lower position so it doesn't block the a/c vents when the screen is open.

Re: New Alpine 2-Din

iceman, to shift the 310 down, you still need to mod the ac vent. If you are really doing it, please let me know. I am very keen to see it done. Could be the first in Singapore.

Better still, trade-in the 310 for the new 2-Din. Use the USA bezel. The local Scorsche bezel doesn't look original.

The value of the new 2 DIN is the advantage of having digital radio already built in. We can't take advantage of that in SG. And the screen size is 6.5", vs a full 7" for the 310.

What do you mean by modding the a/c vent? Do you mean the internal piping or intestines of the dashboard that need to be cleared to make depth of space to slot a proper 1 DIN unit into the middle slot?
