New owner for an old E60

Re: New owner for an old E60

I take it that there is not a lot of warning before parts go 'belly up.'
thanks folks for your reply.

Hi,

I am just a two weeks old 2nd owner of an E60. But a friend of mine has been driving BMW for a long time.

He introduced me to take up a Warranty with TWM, he has some positive expereience after signing up. He beleive the 2 repairs he had after signing more than make up for the warranty he paid for.

I have already signed up. Any bros has use them ?

On the 2nd wk of getting my E39, i went for inspection II. As precaution, i would advice to replace both fuel pump + alternator. I had terrible experience when this 2 items uplorry.

Irregardless whether got warranty or not, if don't change all the necessary parts, downtime still the same. In addition, warranty only replace what is spoil. Whereby our car needs TLC. So, it's ur decision.

True. When getting a 4-5 yr old car, I think we can expect that things will break down and there will be wear an tear. Yup, I think all of us will give our rides TLC.

I anticipate that there will be some of these issues in the months/years ahead so I'm thinking of mitigating the financial impact of repair costs. Look at it like hedging my bets or buying insurance.

For example, my aircon is cool but not very cold. It is still working but not in optimum condition so I believe that it will definately kaput within the next 5 years (some here have changed theirs after 3 years). If I take a $2500 5yr warranty package and in 1 years time my compressor spoils and needs to change ... that will cost $1200.

Re: New owner for an old E60

so, I went to pick up the new old car today - sign on the dotted line and exchange the keys. The excitement came to the biggest let down when I saw the shoddy 'new respray' job their contractor had done. It was full of dimples and I don't know how they could have missed a dent of exposed metal on the roof near the rear right window. It was worse than amature to say the least. Burned my valuable half day leave and spent most of my time there sticking masking tape next to the holes & bumps and other imperfections in the new paint.
The sprayer has since taken back the car for 'another try' after the (dealer) boss and I had a few words with them.

I'm picking it up Saturday so will keep you all posted.

Re: New owner for an old E60

Hi Philster,

As discussed, for dealers, when the respray a car, they will "go one round" i.e. spray one round the car excluding the roof and sometimes the boot.

Good thing you knew beforehand where to look out for and at least now you can get it rectified.

The reality about spray paint jobs is that whilst we can check for misses and scratches here and there ... the problem that I/we and probably most of us face is that it is very difficult to tell about the actualy quality of the paint and if it can last because all new paint jobs look good at the start.
