New Software Update for F20 (Oct 2012)

Hi everyone,

Just a headsup that there is a new software update for all F20s.

I was at Munich Auto for servicing and they prompted me that an update was available for my car (Jul 12 production).

If I wanted to update it, it'd cost $141+ with GST and take 5hrs at least.

I left the car there and I'm glad I did the update as there were significant improvements.
1. Much smoother gear changes across the 8 gears, significantly at lower gears, i.e no more jerkiness.
2. Improved FC (from 11km/l to 12-12.5km/l now)

I'm sure there were other improvements but the two above are more than enough reason to get yours done.

Just a tip, I strongly recommend that you do your update at Munich as
1. they have a much faster booking system than PML (usually next day vs 2 weeks)
2. they wash your car squeaky clean (inside my rims even)
3. you can offset the $141 with a $100 Munich voucher (need to buy something else to hit $200)
4. new customers get a $200 voucher (can use up to 50% of invoice)

Let me know how it works out for you, I'm be keen to hear what else was improved.

Agree with Leslie...the gear change is now much better after the software upgrade and FC has improved...but MA also helped my to program my Auto-Start stop to default to de-activate mode every time I start my car at no extra cost...yes, MA wash my car squeaky clean also...very good service

How could I forget to mention the Auto Start Stop too?

I got mine programmed to Memory mode too at the same time. No need to deactivate it every time n I can activate it when I want it, best of both worlds.

Depends on ur car... Different batch of cars got different software uploaded... U hv to let them check, then they will know. Juz leave ur key in the dongle and the system will prompt... I had mine updated free, but took up the additional option of auto start stop committing to memory. Now after starting my car, the last setting for ASS holds. Hv to agree wif the guys dat the software update improves the FC, gear shift and the car feels raring to go... MA waiting time is shorter, but the update requires abt 4-5 hours... But it really feels improvement to the car...

Software update is not foc?:huhhuh:

That's what I asked at first but googling it reveals the only way it is FOC is when you bring it in with a prob that the SW update is meant to address.

Either way Auto Start Stop is chargeable. PML charged $180+ GST for ASS n they didn't know about the SW update when I last asked.

So Munich's price of $141 is a steal for both SW update n ASS.

Mine is updated 3 weeks ago at PML when they informed me to go down to replace aircon control panel n coolant tank. Agree gear changes much smoother but after sometime, when the Ecu adapts, it's the same. That's for me.

Re: New Software Update for F20 (Oct 2012)

My 1st & 2nd gears were very jerky even months after it had adapted. The new transmission map solved that prob for me.

I asked PML abt new SW two weeks back they gave me a funny face. They told me the memory start stop needed 1 day for the code and 2 days for the programming. I thanked them and left.

New Software Update for F20 (Oct 2012)

Hi guys

What does the Auto Start Stop do?

My car shipment came in on the 28 Oct and I'm collecting my ride soon, should I assumed that mine came updated?

Thanks!

It shuts off the engine when u stop eg at traffic lights. It can be quite irritating when it comes back on, not to mention the extra wear on the parts. It's a good idea but lots of improvements needed still.

You can try asking PML to do it for free but don't get your hopes up. I bought an AD car thinking updates were FOC but apparently it's not.

If that's the case, it seems better to disable ASS. I'll talk to my SE if he can arrange the updates before my collection.

I did my servicing at MA last week and they did not mention anything about this sw update

Shall give them a call.

I already got ASS done before i collect my car.

If they never do for you that means your car is not required to. BMW Asia actually monitors which car is entitled to this update. Like mine, PML updated a SW previously because of some faults so I am not entitled to this latest version as it is termed as non essential.

Essential updates will be FOC. Like this new one for it is considered non-essential so I have to pay if I want it.

So how do we know if there is an update available? Anyone?

From some website or we need to make a trip to the workshop to know?

Thanks!!!

Give Munich a call n ask for Kok Ting, Henrica or Wilbur. They should be able to help u.

It takes only 5 minutes to code.

I think car wash also longer than 5 mins..

Re: New Software Update for F20 (Oct 2012)

It takes 5 mins to code... probably not lah. 15 mins more likely. But the software and hardware to do the coding is way more than your car wash pressure pump and shampoo for sure.
