HI guys. I'm thinking about getting a 2 series Active Tourer from PML. Coming from mostly Jap cars. Obviously reliability is a concern. Any current owners can enlighten me on this. I'll say I took good care of my car. Never miss a servicing.

Welcome - there's a bunch of active owners here > http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/threads/2-series-active-tourer-owners-fall-in.74596/

Go ahead for it. 900km for 216d AT full tank what more do u expect? Lol. Definitely better than other diesel cars in the market due to efficient dynamics (battery will charge when coasting or braking). Some more 10s century sprint due to twin power. Other diesels cannot beat Leh. If u re worried abt reliability then I can tell u AT is using a Toyota aisin cvt 6 spd gb, so reliability is no issue compared to other dual clutch gb especially vw. As for other parts no idea but u must get used to the aircon as not very cold compared to jap cars.

Got it. Thanks for for ur advice. I heard BMW's diesel engine is more robust then their petrol. Hope it's true. My main concern is actually the fact that I usually do start stop driving as I usually travel around the same area. So I'm worried that it may not be too ideal where durability is concern.

Do you mean the auto start stop feature where the engine is turned off when stationary?
That's a relatively new feature for most brands anyway, still too early to tell whether jap or conti is more robust.

I had the same concerns as you when deciding on the AT and decided to go ahead after test driving both jap and conti cars.
It's been over a year and I'm pretty happy with my AT.

That means u need to go long spins in highway to clean the diesel particulate filter if u too many traffic jams. Lol. If not clog up the filter got problem.
