NKOTB - E90 - 320i LCI

Hi everyone,

Happy new year!. May health, peace and good fortune be yours in 2010.

I ended 2009 with bang and collected my 320i on Thursday. Its been a wonderful experience since. I know that there have been comments about it being underpowered etc.. but I feel its just a matter of perspective. I used to drive a Mazda 3 see. To me the current ride is already way better and I appreciate the power (if I can use that word) very much.

I do have a few questions and I hope that the old birds here can help...

1, I can't seem to find the temperature gauge. Does it have one?
2. When I leave the door open, it doesn't warn me of an open door. Is that normal?
3. When I unlock the door but do not open it, it does not seem to autolock back. Is that also normal?
4. I always circulate the air within the cabin, but I seem to have to press the button each time I start the car. Is there a way to fix that setting permanently?
5. I noticed that I cannot select "repeat" when listening to the CD. Is there a way to do it?
6. If I change the horn, any warranty issues?
7. If I add in a CD changer/ change the headunit, any warranty issues?
8. I like the row of white led lights (not sure if its called angel eyes, eye lids - my ignorance is showing through now), where can I get it fixed?
9. There is no audible feedback from the remote, any options?
10. There is no toolkit provided. Normal?
11. I dislike the headlight washer. It splashes up on the bonnet and leaves a mess. Anyway to deactivate it?
12. When I use the remote to roll up or down the windows, they are not doing it all at the same time. Is it normal?
13. When I move the gear to P and pull the handbrake, the car seems to rock a little bit. Seems like some freeplay going on here.. quite unnerving as I tend to park next to a wall pretty close and wonder if I will accidentally knock into to wall. (Front or rear). Normal?

Cheers and thanks for advising in advance..

1, I can't seem to find the temperature gauge. Does it have one?

is urs with climate control? there r 2 round knobs below the CD player to control the temp for both left and right. shld be quite apparent.

2. When I leave the door open, it doesn't warn me of an open door. Is that normal?

yes. unless ur car is in motion, it will sound with a perpetual gong sound.

3. When I unlock the door but do not open it, it does not seem to autolock back. Is that also normal?

yes

4. I always circulate the air within the cabin, but I seem to have to press the button each time I start the car. Is there a way to fix that setting permanently?

no. have to press it each time. by default its off. been like that even with the previous generation bimmers. merc has this same problem too.

5. I noticed that I cannot select "repeat" when listening to the CD. Is there a way to do it?

nope.

6. If I change the horn, any warranty issues?

why would u wanna do that? best sound horn i have heard. loud and imposing. areas around the horn/ airbag area will be affected if anything goes wrong.

7. If I add in a CD changer/ change the headunit, any warranty issues?

major issues. CD player is where there slot in CD's for reprogramming and stuff. but some guys get away with it by changing back to the original CD player before sending in for service.

8. I like the row of white led lights (not sure if its called angel eyes, eye lids - my ignorance is showing through now), where can I get it fixed?

yes they r called angel eyes. can get it fixed at any of our reccommended workshops.

9. There is no audible feedback from the remote, any options?

nope. the key fob is the only way to go about locking and unlocking ur car. dun think there are any aftermarket ones that can replace it. way too complex as it dictates operation of the entire car.

10. There is no toolkit provided. Normal?

there is. but a pathetic set with only 3 tools. they reduced the amount of tools somewhere down the road. like thats gonna save them lots of $$$.

open ur trunk. bottom left side there is a slot where the 1st aid kit is. the second slot below the 1st aid kit has a felt like base which u can remove. the tools r there.

11. I dislike the headlight washer. It splashes up on the bonnet and leaves a mess. Anyway to deactivate it?

not possible. dun spray at all if it bothers u.

12. When I use the remote to roll up or down the windows, they are not doing it all at the same time. Is it normal?

there shld only be a slight delay between front and back. shld not be too much of a diff.

13. When I move the gear to P and pull the handbrake, the car seems to rock a little bit. Seems like some freeplay going on here.. quite unnerving as I tend to park next to a wall pretty close and wonder if I will accidentally knock into to wall. (Front or rear). Normal?

definitely not. car shld not jerk when put in P or pulling handbrake.

Cheers and thanks for advising in advance..

hope this helps

Re: NKOTB - E90 - 320i LCI

Thanks Slater. Much help indeed.

A few follow up questions; (SORRY, MY COMMENTS IN CAPS)

1, I can't seem to find the temperature gauge. Does it have one?

is urs with climate control? there r 2 round knobs below the CD player to control the temp for both left and right. shld be quite apparent.

PITBULL - I WAS ACTUALLY REFERRING TO THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE.

2. When I leave the door open, it doesn't warn me of an open door. Is that normal?

yes. unless ur car is in motion, it will sound with a perpetual gong sound.

PITBULL - THANKS. ANY VISUAL WARNING ON THE SCREEN. USED TO SEEING A VISUAL OF A CAR WITH A DOOR OPEN.

3. When I unlock the door but do not open it, it does not seem to autolock back. Is that also normal?

yes

PITBULL - JUST TO CLARIFY. YOU MEAN THAT IT WILL AUTOLOCK BACK?

PITBULL - DOESN'T REALLY JERK. JUST SEEMS ABIT OF FREEPLAY.

Thanks again Slater. Very kind of you. Double dose of good fortune for you...

Cheers..

Re: NKOTB - E90 - 320i LCI

1. no temp gauge.

13. what i did is step on the brake, push to N, pull handbrake, push to P, absolutely no rocking. i was told this cause less or no stress to gearbox too.

Hi Pitbull68,

I can understand why you asked some of those questions as it is typical of Mazda 3 (which was also my previous car):

2. Visual with the car door open can only be seen when the car is in motion, not when it is stationery (unlike Mazda 3)

3. The door will not autolock back (unlike Mazda 3)

Several other differences between Mazda 3 and 320 include:

- Mazda 3's CD player can swallow 6 disks whereas 320 only 1 disk with CD changer at the boot
- Mazda 3's side mirror can auto close whereas 320 cannot
- Mazda 3 has a DC plug-in whereas 320 does'nt have 1
- Mazda 3 has a manuel measuring oil stick where 320 is electronic type

Other than the above, you will soon find that the 320 is a much more superior car.

pittbull, the other alternative to knowing what the oil and water temperatures is to install the BMW performance steering wheel. one of the displays on the LED shows temperature.

Thanks... good to have someone who knows exactly why I'm asking these questions... while I do like the 320, these features seems basic enough.. but hey.. ain't complaining (too much).. am sure I'll adapt..

Thanks again..

Cheers..

Follow up questions -

So I can install a CD changer in the boot without warranty issue? (That would help alot)..

Sorry for the questions in piecemeal..

by DC plug, you mean the lighter socket?

Cheers..

8. I like the row of white led lights (not sure if its called angel eyes, eye lids - my ignorance is showing through now), where can I get it fixed?

SLATER: yes they r called angel eyes. can get it fixed at any of our reccommended workshops.

ROBOT: Hi pitbull, where is the "row" of white LED lights? Our head lights has 2 round rings which Slater mentioned, called Angel Eyes (AE).

If AE is what you are talking about, and
(i) if your car has Xenon headlights, then you can change the yellow rings to white ones. You can get the LED markers from Bimshop.
(ii) if your car has halogen headlights, that one I'm not sure liao. BUt I know it's expensive to convert it to Xenon.

The round rings am aware.. the cool factor ones are the straight lines.. like eye lids if I can say that.... the Audi has them below.. I think I've seen the beemers with it above..

Re: NKOTB - E90 - 320i LCI
