should be able to get a 1.2 million loan and per month installment only about $4.2k at today int rate.. so why a problem with $14k income?
go for it.. 1.6 mill landed if u like it it's a steal.
but be aware of the pain living in landed.. parking, parking and parking issues in the estate.

the fact that this is asked in BMW forum meaning owning a bmw and if that car loan is not fully paid .. + the car instalment + maintaince cost + housing 4.2K ...easily more than half gone ...the remaining though still better than the medium income of average household here but still look abit tight to me

what about pampering restaurant food treats ... what about pampering holiday (not budget) .... etc ... the bill can all adds up

like what Wt know said... all the misc expenses ... then the LANDED PROPERTY TAX ..scary thoughts

no more lands to build expressway also leh.....unless your landed housing estate consist of only 10 units than government may take back,if more than 100 units government will make a detour around the estate cause it is far cheaper.i never heard whole landed estate taken over by government before, unless government build another estate to compensate in pulau ubin.

Re: % of gross salary into housing payments

spore own version north-south-expressway loh

AsiaOne
Thursday, Nov 17, 2011 Owners whose properties are being partially acquired to make way for the new North-South Expressway (NSE) can start filing their compensation claims from next month onwards.
Many of these owners are now getting their properties valued before meeting with the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) next month.
According to industry experts interviewed by The Straits Times, a plot's value is based on its future use - for example, as part of an expressway - and not on its current use.
The 21.5km NSE will link towns in the north to the city. Works are expected to start from 2013, with major roadworks expected to begin in phases from 2015.
The expressway is expected to be completed by 2020.
Two other full lots, Rochor Centre and a clan building, and 21 partial lots which include schools, condominiums and commercial property, will also be acquired by the Government.
Among these partial plots, St Joseph's Institution International will lose part of its football field, while other properties will give up areas such as carpark spaces, parts of their driveways and grass verges.
Novena Garden will lose up to 20 of its surface carpark spaces, depending on the acquisition footprint of 466.1 sq m.

Valuation for expressway use should be lower than residential use. Else the government would just make an outright market purchase.

After that those families in condos who can't afford another condo will wait 2 years to go get a hdb ? Or will there be an exception for them ?

Having a combined gross income of $13,800 and was thinking of selling my flat at $580,000 (current market price). Initial price of flat is $235,000 and i only have $100,000 left to pay off. Will just like to use the sale proceeds of the flat to pay for the landed (est. $1.6 million - freehold)

14k salary. Can afford almost anything .....

Not high flyer... Sold my company, work for a listed company now... Dun foresee i will get retrenched but do not know my career advancement with the current group.
Had another small company, generating small amount of incomes monthly.
Had some shares with the current holdings group. Looking to dump everything and buy blue chips which generate high dividends annually....
