Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

Just came back from molesting the two new Evo X in MB Motors! *slurp* They brought in the base Evo X GSR manual and the X RS manual (130k and 117k respectively).

I have to say I was quite pleasantly surprised by the proportions of the car. The standard Lancer looks very tall and very narrow and I always hated that. But the Evo has much wider fenders, which gives it a very wide and purposeful stance from the front, with just a hint of aggression. The reworked front bumper and more aggressive front lip looks very very good. It's almost like they designed the front fascia for the Evo, then had to make it look retarded in regular Lancer guise.

From the rear passenger door onwards, the fenders and panels spread out to a much more aggressive hind quarter. There's a slight resemblance to the IS250 in there. The rear, with the wider fenders from the wheel arch, also improves considerably. The twin pipes look a tad small. But nothing an aftermarket muffler system can't solve. RalliArt catalog shows an ETA of Feb 2008. Can't wait. Sure hope it is a titanium tip as well.
I have seen the actual proportions from the videos of Gran Turismo 5 trailer, but in the flesh, it just looks a lot better. IMHO, it is one of the few cars I have sat in recently where I actually felt goose bumps from excitement... and I have been in a few.
In the showroom, there was an Evo 9 parked right next to the car so it was easy to make the comparisons ;) Anyway, despite the overall larger dimensions and the increased weight, Mitsubishi has tried to reduce the weight or at least re-allocate the weight. The front bonnet of the Evo X feels lighter than the Evo 9s. And the battery has been moved to the rear of the car, though it isn't sure if it is for weight distribution or for lack of space in the engine bay.

On the inside, build quality looks and feels a lot better. The control stalks have been updated (though they now resemble the one in my i car! which strictly speaking isnt a bad thing haha) But generally the plastics feel better fit and more tactile to the touch. When you switch on the hazard/signal lights, there is a nicer softer "click" sound like from my old Focus rather than the gawdawful mechanical click click from the old Evo. It's no Golf GTI, but it definitely is a move in the right direction.

The multifunction display in the center of the dash looks a lot like the Highline computer in the GTI and is pretty informative. Would love to see the SAWC status display which shows how much torque is applied to each wheel during driving and cornering. Flanking the MFD are the speedo and tacho displays with cowled hoods reminiscent of the RX8s. I love the Defi BF like illumination. More readble IMHO than the GTI's weird blueish readout.

The steering wheel isn't as "sporty" looking as the old Momo one in the Evo 9 but it feels sportier and smaller. Gripping the wheel, in the nice hugging Recaros, with hand on the gearknob, the driving position feels perfect even without telescopic adjustment.

If I had to spec my own model... it'd be the following:
- GSR with DSG/SST transmission
- swap the piano black fascia on the dash with the matte CF fascia on the RS
- keyless entry and start
- maybe Rockford Fosgate sound system (wonder if C&C can fit this locally since the radio frequencies aren't the same for Japan)

ps Keith is extending the opening hours to 10pm for these 2 days if there are other people who can't skive off work to see ;)

Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

Heh, din know they even got a website.. just typed it as a hunch
mbmotors.com.sg

Hmmm looks like they tied up with AutoVox to handle Conti cars as well.

Anyway, the car showroom is in Orion Industrial Building. Very near TP HQ haha

boy oh boy. i am on the look out for a small 2nd car. ie gti, a3 turbo....so i thot i wud go to mb motors to check out the evo X since its the same price range....anyway, in short the X is a big disappointment.

i had expected an aggressively set up car. low with a purposeful stance. what confronted me was a more mascular looking lancer. the EVO IX and its sibling had a bigger contrast. the X just looks plain boring...small wheels..high suspension....double din radio fittings...i left after 5 mins. it still feels like a bicuit tin. i hv no doubt its probably brilliant to drive..but the looks fail in my books. if i have to pick, the EVO 9 next to it looks rock solid.

HKS

A couple of weeks ago we posted a teaser shot of the HKS prepped 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X (see here). Today we discovered a new set of images of the car taken by a member of a forum called “velocidadmaxima”. Though details remain sketchy due to the fact that the press release is only available in Japanese, HKS’ tuning pack will include engine and chassis upgrades with the adoption of new suspension parts, lower ride height and different tire/alloy wheel combinations, a new exhaust system, modified ECU and uprated turbo and intake
.

Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

the number plate mounting point in front sure is ugly

Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

I molested one earlier this week. Still having mixed feelings about the looks. The PI had a CTR beside it. I think that looked rather good compared to X.

Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

+1
It's growing on me..

Re: Official Evo X pricing and specifications

Ext Looks - 69 times better looking than the new WRX:lol2: . Just that the front grill looks kinda hideous other than if the car is black or grey.

Number plate - Position is :screwedu:

Steering wheel - One of the ugliest steering wheel I ve seen, the centre part with the Mitsubishi logo looks awful:laughlik:

Overall this car had moved 2 steps up IMO, very conti looking from outside, with BBS rims and brembos. Definitely less beng looking. I quite like it, so gonna go molest it this w/e.:)
