Re: Old folk home in JB

No way.........

cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers

Re: Old folk home in JB

i cannot understand ... one of the reason given is would be sibei expensive to build a 'big' old folk home because land is expensive
if you go run lion at woodland, admiralty, kranji, so many empty land
these land expensive meh? must every ulu land value at orchard price?
i remember when went holiday in taiwan and visited a monastry ... the local govt actually give the land free (100 years) for the monastry which also do a lot of community service including take care of old folks and giving free meal
land cost is just a number ... if a ulu piece of land is used for a good cause, why not?

no way x 2.....screw the smart politicians that recommend that......knn, will they send their own parents to jb old folks home themselves.
simple fact, if they can't do it themselves, don't expect other ppl to do that.
just like $1k can buy flat...buy what flat they never say...and squeeze a whole family in yet, try doing it yourselves for the ppl proposing this.

Re: Old folk home in JB

One law for you, another for....

You take MRT because you have to. Some take the MRT for good publicity.

How to compare?

Please, peasant, know your place.

Tsk tsk tsk.

Re: Old folk home in JB

Acerbity aside, I've often pondered how I'd live out my last years. As we made the decision (it remains yet to be seen whether it was a wise one or otherwise) not to have children, I guess the only ones that would send us to a (any) nursing home would be ourselves. And, that being the case, I've come up with 2 options in order to avoid putting myself at the mercy of some fogey-slapping Filipino so-called-nurse:

Option a. When the time comes, instead of a nursing home, I head to any one of the following: AMK MRT station, Bedok Reservoir, MBS (this latter seems super popular of late) or, if I'm feeling super extravagant, enroll in a skydiving course - and "forget" to pull the chute at 10000 feet. Consperm no need nursing home in Singapore, JB or Batam.

Option b. If I lack the courage to carry out the above plan, then all I need to do is to project to my many nieces and nephews an image of an ailing uncle with Immense wealth - so, all these ingrate gen Z fcukers will be circling my deathbed like effing vultures, attending to my every whimsical need, just hoping I'd keel over and pass a sizable fortune over to them. Little will they know I would have blown all my money on car mods....

See, no need JB old folks home liao like that!

Re: Old folk home in JB

Singapore GREY population is an issue now.....land scare.
Question...how are our government look after the GREY population if the land is scare? medical cost up? lack of care giver? any comments?

Re: Old folk home in JB

when spore population was 3,000,000 there is no land scarce
now spore population approaching 6,000,000 there is no land scarce (imho)
old man say target 7,000,000 ... i think still can live with that ... still see many empty land ... punggol still not fully populated ... i think still can build a few new towns

if spore population is 10,000,000 .... land is sibei SCARCE ... but why 10M? huge population is a huge problem
just look at china and india alto they have the largest domestic market

Vacant land, empty land, available land.....are given to residentical for generarting more revenue. Even grave yard is NOT spared.

Re: Old folk home in JB

Can we take one step back and ask - WHY? Why need to send parents to JB?

If JB has better facilties, better medical services, I don't see why not.

But if so, something is symptomatic of the state of medicine and old folks' care here......

Re: Old folk home in JB

i think we all know the TRUTH >>> 1 SGD = 2.45 MYR

i don't look down on anyone choose to send their parent to JB to capitalise the upside of currency exchange
ie: if you have $1 SGD in your pocket, you have to find a way to stretch that dollar right if you have many mouth to feed

Yes, and actually, applying the currency logic, those landed properties at Iskandar sure make our local properties look way over-valued.

Re: Old folk home in JB

But, but Chocs Mei.... imagine the minuscule carbon footprint of mine, being a DINKY. I'm doing it for the love of the environment! That's why, unlike some bros here (hint he of the Argonauts fame - yes, you, Jason), I putter about in a humble N55 engine, sipping fuel while he barrels down 6th Ave in his 6.3L monster!

Re: Old folk home in JB

If the old folk home near KTV nightclub, I might consider when I retire.

Re: Old folk home in JB

Singapore has about USD300B in foreign reserves. I do not understand why some of this money cannot go into social services. This government no longer serves the people.

quite a fair bit of OT and G bashing going on but i think the thread was started in response to a recent article where families are sending their folks to JB BUT decided to stop paying their dues - thus leaving the home owners in a fix.

Cases of families defaulting on nursing home payments on the rise - Channel NewsAsia

how we treat our parents will be how our kids treat us. it is a family responsibility.

have a blessed saturday, all.
