Out with the old ACS & In with the new LMS :)

Hey Bimmerheads!

Just wanted to share my new shoes... BBS LMs! Over the last year, I have been on a never ending quest to find lightweight Japanese rims for my E46. I've been looking for Volk Racing LE37s but my search ended in vain upon hearing from Ray's Japan that they do not manufacture LE37s for non-M E46s. I tried looking at other brands like Work... but nothing changed my fixation on the LE37s. And then as I was taking my sweet time looking at rims in our local retailers... BAAM! I was catatonic finding a set of BBS LMs sitting in one corner being overshadowed by Breytons, ACS, Hammans and CSLs. It was just there gathering dust, brand new, with its machined lip calling me to feel the smoothness of the machine process.

I asked the price, negoed to kingdom come, and finally handed my card. I was wondering why no one wanted to fetch these fine rims, and the owner told me that all the bimmers who go to the shop just want all the branded BMW wheels in their rides. And it was true, of all the Bimmers in the shop I saw an M3 SMG cab having OEM CSLs installed, a Z4 having 19 inch Type 4s done, and another E46 getting a set of 19inch PG2s.

The owner had mentioned, "Its good to have someone who knows wheels come into the store for a change. That one and only set has been sitting in that lonely corner for over a year now. I'm glad that these rims have found itself to an owner who knows what these are all about"

So here my fellow Bimmerheads I present my old shoes and my new shoes. I kept the old shoes just incase I decide to go back to my ACS look, plus for other sentimental reasons.

Thanks for dropping by guys!

sick ride!! BBS LMS are my favorite rims of all time....thanks for sharing!

Re: Out with the old ACS & In with the new LMS :)

Dude, Nice!

But why do I get a feeling that the LMs look smaller than your ACS wheels?

Is it because the ones that are usually featured in E46fanatics are 19s?

Cheers!

Thanks for the props!

Hey guys thanks for the kind words :) Its good to be different!

TobyNik - Yeah the LMs do look a tad smaller than my old ACS even if they have the same measurements (18x8.5). Its because the Type3s spokes extend until the edge of the rim lip, whereas the LMs have a machined lip which stops the mesh from extending to the edge. A mesh look which extends all the way to the edge of the rim are CSLs. Yeah it does also dwarf in comparison to the LMs on the E46 Fanatics site... those guys have better roads to carry 19s. As much as I wanted to rock the Dub, our roads here won't cooperate with my dream. So il just stick with what works... and 18 inches will do for me.

Ah...u probably missed this one?
Prodrive GC07C, forged rims...8.5J*18 ET+39 and weighs just slightly over 8kg
Fits perfect on E46 :)

But hey, BBS LM is gorgeous..
Just be patient when you are washing em:)
Congrats dude.

Hi theWhiteCometOfMakati,

just wondering if you could share what suspension setup you are on? Coilovers? Cup kits or just lowering springs with OEM shocks? The drop on your car is really nice and goes really well with the LMs. Also do you know if BBS LMs will have clearance issues with certain types of suspension, in particular coilovers as I heard that they would require some spacers to push the wheel out further. Cheers!

Re: Out with the old ACS & In with the new LMS :)

TripleM - You know what I did miss that... Wow! Talk about lightweight! I initially thought that Prodrive was exclusively Scooby-only. Thanks for sharing! Maybe when I win the lotto I can rack myself a whole collection of J-Spec rims! And yes, it takes me almost 3X the time I used to put into my ACS to clean the LMs. But hey its a labor of love! Thanks for the props and I just wanted to say that I love your avatar! J-chicks rock! Who is this fine woman?

ninja07 - Glad to be of help buddy! Here is my current set-up: I am on Eibach Pro-Kit springs and SACHS performance shocks. Nothing hardcore, but perfect enough for spirited street driving. The combination allows me to coast on humps without having to worry about bouncing the car and slamming my chin. When I initially had the rims on, I felt it was too tucked into the wheelwell. The rims are 18x8.5. I asked the shop to put on a range of spacers to push it out. They used 5mm, 7mm, & 10mm. I finally decided to go with the more aggressive 10mm spacers all around with the proper length bolts. As far as rubbing issues are concerned, I have no problems rubbing the front on full turn and I have no problems with the rear as I had my fenders rolled to accomodate wider rims and tires. I even had the car loaded with a total of 4 people over the weekend, and there were no problems with rubbing. If you do a lot of tracktime, maybe a set of coils will be a worthy investment, but if you use your car similar as I do (high speed cruise on the expressway - Wangan style :) some fast cornering on exits and spirited driving on winding roads) I think you can consider using a combination similar to mine. I hope I was able to help you with your query ninja07! Thanks for the props!

Re: Out with the old ACS & In with the new LMS :)

Hi thanks for the info........Can I check what is the offset of the BBS LMs you got, if I am not wrong it's +38mm? That being the case then we would not need spacers right? I always thought +38mm would fill the arches nicely and set it fairly flush to the fender's inner edge?

Does that mean your final offset with 10mm spacers would be +28mm then? Thats quite a bit of fender roll ya got there mate! :) cheers!

Re: Out with the old ACS & In with the new LMS :)

Hi ninja07,

The offset of my LMs are +35mm. It does not actually require spacers, when I had them done the first time it ran fine, but it did not clear the fenders the way I wanted them to. Which was why i made the decision to run 10mm spacers with the LMs. I'm sorry I was not able to take a before and after of the LMs and the spacers. I can just leave you with this: the spacers really gave the LMs more visual impact from the rear and the front view! Hope this helps!

I can't tell bud... she is fine ass hell though - Maybe you can share the name of this fine Korean vixen!

My bumper is a Rieger, you can see more of their parts here - http://www.rieger-tuning.de/
It was one helluva quest to find this bumper. I had to order my part from a distributor in the US --> who had to order the part from Rieger in Germany --> rush send the piece to the US --> to finally have it handcarried by myself back to Manila.

Whew... the things we do for tuning. Blood-Sweat-Tears-Credit Card Statements
