Petrol Smell 520i

Hi Guys,

Need advice on this problem. I drive 520i, 1991.

Each time after filling up my petrol, I usually can smell the petrol inside the car compartment each time when I go into my car. The smell of the petrol is very strong smell.

Wondering if anyone can tell me what should I do??

Your advice on this problem is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Well, it cannot be leak as it happens only after the fuel replenishment.
Did you leave the windows or door open, which I do not think so.
For me very rare the cabin smell of petrol.
The only time is that if I accidently stepped on petrol at the kiosk.
Not much lar, the usual drips from previous users or me.

Re: Petrol Smell 520i

Hi,

i drive a 91 520i 24V and have the same problem exactly. there is a rubber (or similar) seal at the top of the tank that needs replacement. Not expensive, but i havn't done it yet, so presently i don't fill to the brim.

Have you introduced yourself in the classics forum? there are about 8 of us driving e34s. See You there!

My friend...all I can say is...DUN SMOKE in the car man...if not KABOOM !! Wahahahahaha...

Yup...its the silly rubber seal. Either that or the float that is leaking liao. Mine had this problem....was wasting petrol all the time until I got it fixed.

Raffles,

Did you notice any gains with the UCC pulleys or the K&N panel filter? Need advice if they are worthwhile upgrades....

Car 'feels' much lighter after pulley installation, but don't expect the car to be sprinting like a tc car from 0-100 km/hr.
However, pulling from filter lanes' speed onto highways is a breeze, quite noticeable !

As many bros says, 1 of the neccessity !

I give my vote to pulleys over my drop-in filter, incremental power difference w/filter was not as much though.

Wow, that sure sounds like a good upgrade bro! :)
What's the price like and where's the recommended workshop for installation?

Thanks Raffles.

i am interested too. Where and who can fix it? Does it cost a bomb? I suppose the pulleys underdrive something, so do you feel the difference? ie p/steering, temperature etc? i don't quite remember but is yours a M50?

Correct, water pump & pwr steering. temp no change noticed on the analog meter, power steering feel same as my steering wheel is very ah pek

Call/pm Wilman2772 to help u on your engine model !

& it doesn't cost a bomb, i'm not working, what do u think ;)
