Please advise on what to buy

Hi all,

I like to seek advise from all the car enthusiasts here. I am not a car person.
After visiting that few showroom, i had shortlist to BMW 523 and Mercedes E200.
Their price different is almost the same. I really not sure which to get.
Can any kind soul out there advise me.

My driving habit is normally 80 - 100 km/h. Everyday my mileage is between 100 to 200km so fuel efficiency is one of the consideration. One of the main reason I am getting a new car is for fetching corporate client. My age is 37.

Another consideration is also the resale value.

Merc E200 - corp clients would like more coz the merc interior IS better than the bimmer's more functional layout.

Have you ever consider the Lexus GS300? better hp. better interior, better sound system........

IMO, for E200, 523i and GS300, I would go for GS300. Unless you want the 530i.

I suggest you go and test drive the GS300 and find out yourself. Don't just look at the brand name.

MB E200
Fuel - (litres/100km) City 12.1 - 12.6 / Highway 6.5 - 6.8
Engine is 4 cylinder so more crude sounding (noisy)
Interior subjectively more Towkay / Business-like - traditionalists will like the merc exterior and interior look
Resale good but new model coming out in 2009 - 2010 which will hurt resales of older model

BMW 523i
Fuel - (litres/100km) City 10.3 / Highway 5.9
Engine is 6 cylinder & very very smooth
Interior is more modern executive and minimalist. Exterior more avant garde
Resale also good, new model in 2009 - 2010 also

Lexus GS300
Fuel - (litres/100km) City 14 / Highway 7
Drives very smooth, and more powerful engine but fuel consumption very poor comparatively
Interior more features (value for money)... but Japanese look and cluttered.
Resale not as good as BMW / MB. New model ??

So conclusion. Lexus bigger engine and more power, but fuel consumption poor. But value for money in terms of features (reverse camera, sound system, etc etc)
BMW best fuel consumption and smooth engine
Interior IMHO toss up b/w Merc and BMW - depends on what you want
You decide...

Just follow your heart, get what you like at this moment. Be brave enough to use as many cars as possible. Even if you make mistakes, so what? At least you will know what they are and learn somethings. Life is short, don't need to consider so many things lah, road tax, fc, resales, etc. Like what OLL say, the best is don't buy, save all the money. kekekeke.

Why Lexus?

1) Most of them come perfect, no problems.
2) They don't break even after 10 years
3) They have a good ride and handling is not bad
4) They don't shout yayapapaya
5) It's a Toyota !!!
6) Look, you don't need that extra bit of handling if you don't track. For going up Camerons the Lexus is good enough.
7) And what you actually need is a car which is comfortable 99% of your short trips
8) Less people will scratch a Lexus compared to a Merc or Bimmer
9) Malaysian thieves rarely steal GS or IS coz there's no salvage market there
10) If it doesn't start, check your hand, maybe it's not connected to your body. No need to check the car. The car sure start one.

just remember we can give so many diff opinions but at the end of the day, u will b the one driving the car day after day, for the next few years to say the least....just ask yourself, which car r u more likely to picture yourself driving...good luck!

I have both E200 and LCI 523i; I like the engine note of 523 but prefer the FC of E200.
Merc is a cheap car that looks expensive, and many people still dont believe Merc is cheaper than BMW here in SG.

Forgot to mention, if u need to fetch VIP, the back seats of W211 are far more comfortable than E60!
