Pml engine oil for n20

Hi, was told by the sa that they use shell w30 oil n its a special blend not for retail. Anyone know what oil is that? Also any other recommended oil for n20? Thanks

They might be using Shell Helix Ultra AB. QAF, Brunei's equiv of PML uses that oil for the n20s. Considering Brunei BMW gets their stuff from SG, wouldnt be surprised if you guys use the same.

They might be using Shell Helix Ultra AB. QAF, Brunei's equiv of PML uses that oil for the n20s. Considering Brunei BMW gets their stuff from SG, wouldnt be surprised if you guys use the same.

Special blend of Shell engine oil for N20? Frankly, kana big smoke by SA because the SA does not know the specific Shell Helix engine oil being used.

If it is Shell w30 or Shell Helix Ultra, then it is definitely one of the three below:

- Shell Helix Ultra 5W-30 (cleans and protect for Shell's maximum performance)
- Shell Helix Ultra E 5W-30 (for improved engine efficiency)
- Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30 (helps protect emission system of exhaust after-treatment devices)

What special blend that is not for retail... TCSS only and they can TCSS because most car owners are 'not in e know'... goodness sake, this is the Internet Era, what is e SA thinking?

Both brands are in use for authorised BMW service centres.
Other service centres or workshops can be using many other brands out there in the market. As long as it meets/exceeds the Viscosity grade stated by BMW, it should be good to go.

PML uses Shell.
MA uses Castrol... and Castrol is the only brand recommended by BMW's HQ.

I using Lucas race grade engine oil
Heck with castrol or whatever that was used by pml last time when I did my servicing with them,car was so much more smoother after that

wah loh...i didnt bother to counter his smoke...mybe their shell is by the drum so we really can buy at retail...haha...lol

As long as it meets/exceeds the Viscosity grade stated by BMW, it should be good to go.

Not forgetting HTHS > 3.5 hor. Not all 30wt oil meet this requirement.

I understand.

I didn't go into too much details.

If velocity grade meets BMW's specification, the engine oil also has to meets BMW LL-01 or BMW LL-04 or BMW-M. Generally, new generation engine oil will meet BMW LL-01 or LL-04.

Of course there exist engine oil that meets e Viscosity grade but does not meet this BMW specified standard e.g. Idemitsu Extreme ECO 5W-30.
Another example is Mobil-1 engine oil, there's 2 types of Mobil-1 5W-30 while only 1 meets BMW LL-01 while another does not, e one that meets this requirement is Mobile-1 ESP Formula 5W-30... this I suspect a handful of BMW Owners who use Mobil-1 may not know.

LL = LongLife
01 & 04 = oil standards approved on 2001 and 2004 respectively
M = Oil standard to M models

Mobil 1 or Mobil 1 gold?

Still got Mobil 1 Gold meh?

Mobil 1 engine oil should be as follows:
- Mobil 1 0W-40 (Gold coloured bottle). Meets BMW LL01.
- Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30 (Silver Green coloured bottle). Meets BMW LL04.
- Mobil 1 5W-30 (Silver coloured bottled). Does not meet BMW LL.
- Mobil 1 5W-30 (Silver Blue coloured bottle). Meets BMW Diesel.

No Mobil 1 engine oil meets the BMW-M.
