I'm sorry. You made these comments just to say the cakes are no good?

So, you have paid for a service and was rendered one which now calls into question not just the quality of the service ( i am ignoring the complaints on pricing) but the correct materials used during the service. The is an assumption of duty of car which may not have been met; whether through negligence, recklessness or intention (to be determined). What this means is that you may not have gotten what you paid for and may result in damage to your property and or other consequential loss. Its really up to you if you want to take legal action or want to find out if others using the same service rendered by the same provider is similarly flawed (hence, suggestion of a class action).

I am slightly perplexed as i have never received any leftovers in a bottle when servicing there as i thought they use engine oil from a drum rather than from 1L bottles. Just wondering.

I have never received leftover engine oil from PML servicing EXCEPT when I brought 7L of my own engine oil of choice. back in the 90s, they sometimes sell you an "engine oil" top up kit. a full litre of oil (new bottle) with a paper funnel. But not anymore.

I have never been offered the 5W-40 LL98 BMW packaged oil except by the BMW service mobile for top ups (who are largely clueless, and i rejected it). The workshop uses Shell oil now. When I buy engine oil from PML for top up, the parts counter sells me BMW 0W-40 LL01.

From the thread starter's pic, there's another new bottle next to the half used bottle of LL98 oil. Why did TS buy that older spec oil anyway? Did someone suggest it to you?

Re: PML service

if your car is an E60 520 registered in 2005, I'll guess you're running the M54 2.2L inline 6. NOT the 4 cylinder valvetronic (that some others mentioned in the thread). Of course, only you can verify this.

LL98 can be used for the M54. It is not a valvetronic engine. Depends what you follow: older engine, thicker oil? If so, 5W-40 oil is typically suggested by workshops (even at independents).

BUT if PML listed in your invoice that they sold you LL-01 oil, and gave you LL-98, you can always clarify. However, seems like PML did state it was BMW LL-98 oil in your bill. I suggest you ask them why they chose LL-98 for you, instead of the Shell LL-01 oil they typically use. In my experience, some PML technicians believe LL-98 is fine for top ups on even the newer N52 engines. It was up to me to tell them no.

I would not argue cost of oil from PML versus Giant. We see the same price differential on M1 0W-40 at indy workshops that sponsor this forum.

Next time, tell them not to top up your wiper fluid to avoid the ridiculous fee. If you weren't warned beforehand of the fee, it is up to you to dispute it. Just be prepared for the CSA to be a little cheesed off. human nature.

If you are that worried its the wrong oil, you can go talk to them. I doubt you need to threaten legal action to get resolution. But if you bought the same oil from Giant before this servicing... i guess you're fine using the oil? (i can't tell from your thread if you bought it before or after). But i suggest you stick with an LL-01 spec oil. Mobil 1 0w-40 can't go wrong, they have it at giant too.

According to E39 owner manual, only LL01 is allowed. Anything else (including LL98) is allow for top up only.

Re: PML service

different Giant sell the oil at different prices?? I was at Junction 10 Giant and all Mobil back to $22+ prices.
Think you need to be quick to Turf City or now known as Grand Stand? They may still have some on promo.

Re: PML service

the after-math experience... after about 2 weeks from PML, these few days.. i noticed something is not right.. my fuel "efficiency" dropped... usually i can travel about 420km on a full tank... but i noticed that after which i can only travel 390km... and the most worrying part, is that i would like to ask everyone, i noticed my RPM when stationary, is only about 5-600..with aircon on, stopping on a traffic light..is this normal? and i feel that i always need to step more on accelerator recently can all these be the engine oil?

thanks

ah wil

I've tried 10w30, 5w40, 5w50 on my E60 523 pre lci , none of them affect idling rpm. My personal experience i found that 5w50 give me more smooth driving experience and fc. forget about it. BMW owner don't see fc like kuku toyota's owner.
