I always get the good price for island trip coz my friend was doing this in M'sia. not fantastic resort but a simple place to stay n food included.

Let's stay focus on a beginners' place. While we are qualified, many who might be interested in taking up a OWD course would not be suitable to dive in places like Redang and Sipadan, in my opinion. I clocked Redang twice last year, and the choppy waters are definitely too much of a turn-off for beginners. Safety is one concern I would not compromise if there are new divers on board.
Bear in mind of monsoon season and current flows.

Monsoon season closure starting next week. Many dive operators will not make trips to West Malaysia. Earliest dive trip will be in March 2006.
Meanwhile, gotta plan for OWD takers.

i dont mind a diving trip. for OWD course i can recommend try big bubble at havelock road. they are pretty good. did my 5 day live aboard similan trip with them last year.
14 dives 4 dives a day. flights, all food and 1 night stay in phuket. all for 900 bucks.

i have an advanced cert about 5-6 yrs back but i lost it liao, how? I also need a refresher course.
Back then I did my begginner and advanced with Friendly waters in Pulau Aur. The BEST thing about that "resort" is that there's no electricity in the daytime, so after your dive if you go back to your room to shower in the afternoon, there's no light in the room. So you have to open your room door, but there's no light in the toilet. So you have to open your toilet door too.
Thats how lim peh in the corridor "accidently" saw my cute ang moh model-seh exchange student classmate showering... sui sui. I straightaway needed to equalise my blood pressure.

Muahahaha. I am sure Dave can worked something out for your PADI cert. But it's true - no lights in the day - all hang around cookhouse eat, drink, smoke, talk cock. Damn fun. But there will be lights and aircon at night. So you going or not? I am trying to talk Dave into lumping our group with a bunch of NTU chicks leh......

yup dave was the one who instructed me for my certs some years back. i'm still a bit iffy. too long never dive, plus, i'm very reluctant to go during monsoon season. One batch ppl went the boat capsize they kena stuck in the water in the storm for one day. hahaha

Ken, I'm not asking you all including beginners to Redang or Sipadan to do OWD.. i'm just exchanging view only. btw now monsoon season, most island will close for biz.

I'd think you intepreted me wrongly. I appreciate your inputs in the tentative dive trip, really. As I reckon it will be good for non-divers to participate in the trip, the dive terrain is crucial in terms of safety. Hence the need to skip the mentioned sites for the time being. Anyway, i spoke to the shop and they are willing to do a package for new divers and refresher course too. Thereafter all go diving together.
The only problem is now there are lousy dive sites only due to monsoon season. Will let you guys know as and when the season opens or a good site comes up.

Ok Folks, I have scouted around and it looks like Waikiki Dive Center is the way to go. They are a 5* PADI accredited dive center which means safe safe diving. Spoke to John Lee and he gave the following tentative package.
They are willing to do a diving course for beginners as well as refresher courses.
The damage will be as follows:
New Divers, max $480 per pax which includes the following:
Classroom Lessons
Pool Sessions
Open water lessons at Pulau Au
Transportation
Board and Lodging
Insurance
Equipment Rental
For Refresher Divers max will be $300 per pax for following:
Pulau Au diving, some together with students
Transportation
Board and Lodging
Insurance
Equipment Rental
Free Pool Session lesson if got more than 10 pax
The diving trip can only start on the 2nd wk of March 06. If there are confirmed participation numbers, he can give a better quote. The figures above is for single bookings.
If we can settle on a particular destination for the dive site, he can also work it in.
Can i request that members place their names down for the event?
