quite depressing leh .... F piech now taking revenge on Porsche try to cut their dick off. so the last car company doing both engineering and marketing well - finish?

will we not have a 911/box/cayman built with the aircraft construction techniques of the panamera to be a 1.1 ton car? probably not if that bastard piech has his way.

it's so depressing that finance minister after realising the situation even mentioned to get a panny, my eyes nearly pop out with surprise. not that I will do it, but really, the last piece of the best engineered street car on the road today, the end of an era, it is really tempting to buy now.

I did not know that the panamera had aerospace tech. Despite the tech, the editors at rennteam say that it drives like a cayenne and that is not a good sign. I test drove a cayenne gts before at a stuttgart event and it sucks. It was rolling and leaning all over the shop and the telepathic steering feel evident in the 911/cayman/boxster wasn't there.

Re: Porsche 911 SC - Sport Classic - revived!

IMHO,the duck tail makes the car looks gay.gt2 tail better.

Re: Porsche 911 SC - Sport Classic - revived!

Duck tail nice what....like all those e92 3ers with their vorsteiner boot lid. Sama sama what. Haiz.

Nice package but price is definitely the deal breaker. Limited edition....haiz....408bhp? Any Porsche can easily enhance to make that kind of power right?

Re: Porsche 911 SC - Sport Classic - revived!

Beautiful. But only for those who need the 2 rear seats and PSM. If not u will just go and buy the GT3 right?
This bugger should come with PDK lah.

Re: Porsche 911 SC - Sport Classic - revived!

The pricing of the car is astonishing. To put that figure in context, that is the base UK price for a Gallardo LP 560!

But it is not entirely true that these limited Porsche edition models are not good investments. There have been a number of the past limited editions that have been good investments.

993 GT2

See one for sale here:
Classic Driver - CARS FOR SALE - Cars

These cars cost UK 160k new and command around 180-200k now. To put that in contrast, the then current 993 twin turbo sold for under 100k.

Similarly, there was the ultra limited 968 turbo S which was sold in very limited quantities (partly because it was so damn expensive!) at the point in time where porsche were selling the 964 3.6 turbo (anybody remember will smith in bad boys?)

Porsche 968 Turbo S

In case anyone is wondering, I have no idea what a 968 turbo s will sell for today. They are so rare that there have hardly been any transactions. But the asking prices of the 993GT2 are roughly on par with the 959!

The one factor that helps keep values very strong is the fact that these cars were build for homologation of porsche's race cars.

For the SC revival above, although nice and attractive cos it has real performance enhancements, it strikes me as being more like the Porsche Design limited edition boxsters and caymans of the last couple of years. Mainly esthetic and perhaps more in the vein of Lambos limited editions (though I would argue that the Super Legg and the new Balboni 550-2 are the exceptions)

Oh my! Does the Panny have aerospace tech? C'mon, lets be serious now fellas.

Or the new RS with money to spare. It looks nice but the money is being paid for a funky roof and some designer wear... not much else... way overpriced and will never be a classic... unless VW has its way and the 997 is really the last of the "classic" 911s which I seriously doubt.

Wont hold value as the 997 is just not a cult car and too many were built, let alone a car which many wont be able to differentiate from an agricultural 997...

Only way this might be interesting if it was only marginally more than a base model C4 for example in which case even I might be tempted to pick one up wit PDK as a daily driver... otherwise leave it as a marketing failure.

there are many things in some of the promo material which shows what I think is aerospace construction techniques, also with some pointers from Excellence:

Just a simple pic i could find online. More detailed pics in the press pack (print). Look at the A pillar. Rivets, not only spot welding. Looks like the rivets are flush with the bodywork and dimpled in the middle, so that you can just drill out those rivets and replace with bigger rivets during repair.

From my experience with modern lesser cars' construction, spot welds are more commonplace, and even if rivets are used, they aren't blind rivets and are not designed for removal and re-riveting.

Of course, I don't have super experience with aluminium cars which the Panny is.
