Potential Lemon?

Re: Potential Lemon?

Best wishes to you.
At the end, you didn't really pay what you think is worth.
Buying 2nd hard is really heng suah. But at least, they are willing to pay to get it running though not to it's original spec.

Re: Potential Lemon?

I find that the active steering is actually a very good technology. And it's sensitive - there is a sequence in reinitiasation followed by resets of specific ECUs to clear the faults.

Removing it is a pity.

Got a call from the Technical Manager. Apparently the Active Steering problem is recurring and difficult to permanently eradicate. He stop short of saying BMW technology is f*** up. But the solution is to remove Active technology and replace with Normal Power Steering as a "permanent" fix. They will do it foc. Dealer is happiest person around lor... but repairs will take 1 month and dealer refuse to bear the rental cost in full... only 1/3 they pay. Have to let CASE help negotiate with them.

Re: Potential Lemon?

I reckon you are at least 1.9 m tall and muscle big big.
even dealer and pml bend to you.

Re: Potential Lemon?

Yeah its a pity but it's factory advise. And I don't wish to haggle and hassle... solve and get the car back. Lesson learnt. Buying used cars must buy from reputable dealers though u pay premium abit but if things go wrong, is reasonable and provides warranty.
Haha Darth Vader, I'm 20cm shorter and big big at a different muscle.
End of the day once the car comes back driveable and spirited, I'm happy enough.

Hi, sorry to revive this thread again but was wondering if you can pm me the Technical Manager who had serviced your car? I am experiencing the active steering warning fault (steering still pointing straight), hence was wondering if I can go with the same approach of removing Active technology and replace with Normal Power Steering as a "permanent" fix. Have search through the internet and the forum, and I understand there seemed to be a Service Information bulletin regarding the failure of the active steering. While I called PML about this, and one of the advisor suggested that I should drive my car in for diagnose and was told the diagnose would cost me $300 even before they commit on any repair..... Hopefully can get hold of your Technical Manager to see if he have better advice on this....

Re: Potential Lemon?

I can't remember his full name. But surname is Chong.

Re: Potential Lemon?

Once Active Steering technology is removed, problem free for nearly 8 months since.

Re: Potential Lemon?

Drive in the car n let them repair n then dun pay.... they always like to talk money first n throw smoke

Have you tried to reset it ?

Not referring to clearing fault but follow through with recalibration process ? Has to be done in a certain sequence .....

Removing it is quite a drastic move.

Re: Potential Lemon?

Ya, I tried to reset it ... Turn left right bla bla bla... The light went off for or a week but came back on. Funny thing is that when searching for this fault I came across a TSB in US to recall cars for repair FOC. Sadly when asked about this, PML doesn't wanna commit.

Re: Potential Lemon?

Steering angle calibrated and wheels aligned to steering angle ?

Just did a check at a workshop. When they tried to calibrate/reset the wheel, the angle shown on the computer screen was negative value (in thousands) and when the wheels are being turned, the angle in the computer screen does not respond to the alignment. Hence, it was suspected that the active steering angle sensor/module is spoiled. Would there be any specific fail code if the active steering angle sensor/module fails?
