Nurburgring Nordschleife - lap behind Porsche Cayman S driven by Timo Kluck

Description: Timo does a very quick lap. Despite a 85kg passenger, he is 8s faster than the "supertest" lap by the german car magazine "sport auto". The Cayman S has ceramic brakes and regular road tyres. Camera car is a BMW M3 on sports tyres. Nürburgring Nurburgring Nordschleife Porsche Cayman BMW M3 trackday

Both the M3 and CS has passengers onboard.

Re: Pretty long video of M3 chasing Timo Kluck in a Cayman S

err... the first pic you posted looked like he slowed down towards the end of the run, so you could see the chase car gaining rapidly from a long way off ... this was a demo run for the customer in the passenger seat anyway ...

Anyway, this is not a fair race! The Cayman had PCCB brakes option (S$32K) and probably Micheline PS2/ Cup and he can do ANYTHING without fades, and the chase car merely had sport tyres and the brakes probably not upgraded at all.

hey, that guy is Timo Kluck... Indycar driver, Sportcar driver, factory test driver .....you give him a Mini Cooper S and he'd beat anybody in a 911 (I guess ....)

Re: Pretty long video of M3 chasing Timo Kluck in a Cayman S

No wonder the Cayman grips like a train on tracks..

the first pic was the starting of the straight road..the M3's top speed beat it...but the cayman was right at its tail..

nope. Recent events have made it much easier for me to change the order to an S. But still:

1) The 2.7 revs easier with lighter pistons
2) Savings of roadtax, fuel consumption, oxygen consumption, and basically environmentally more friendly
3) Just found out that even with a Cayman 3.4 I'll lose to any STI or Evo 6-9 stock.
4) I just love the 50kg lighter 2.7 compared to the 3.4
5) 245HP is plenty enough, and best of all....
6) I get to spend more percentage of time in full throttle with the engine in full song in normal driving. Something like 0.4 seconds longer every time I do 0-100 (5.4 vs 5.8 seconds)

So I'm really happy to get the 2.7. THe only concievably bad thing is that people will say .. `can't afford a S so have to buy Cayman only ... hrrrmph' but then, even with the S people will say, `can't afford a 911 997 so just buy Cayman S' but even with a 911 997 GT3 RS people will say `can't afford Ferrari so just buy a Porsche'....

But care not... at the end of the day, if it were not for the Cayman I'd have bought a Z4 3.0SI Coupe anyway. I didn't buy for anybody to say anything.

Sadly many singaporeans buy cars for stupid reasons. With your thought well laid out like that, its certainly hard for enthusiasts to brand you as such. Thats what we have come to know as passion. :)

from the video, I'm surprised that the M3 did not kill the Cayman S because of the straight track. Well not so surprised, because Timo Kluck is on the wheel. Otherwise the M3 would have eaten the Cayman S for lunch on the straights, only to be overtaken again on corner approaches because of PCCB.

Actually, IF i bought the Cayman and planned to sell it within 5 years, I would have to consider what other people think, and bought the S. It is EASIER to resell I'm sure.

BUT, luckily, my wife banned me from selling the Cayman for 25 years. And I'm happy for it, so now I can buy according to my own desires. Purely my own. Including the pure alcantara (no cost option) seats.
