Hi all,

Extracted this from another beemer forum. Not sure if it works for you guys facing the hesitation or jerking problem with the F10.

"Hi all,

I've been suffering from this hesitation and jerking problem since I got my F10 three months ago. Well, today i stumbled upon a solution in this thread below. I tried it right away, and I have to admit, the accelerator is much smoother now from stop. And I'm a much happier F10 owner now than I was yesterday.

Steps...

1) hit start button once to turn on power (Don't start the engine)
2) then press the accelerator down to the floor for 5 sec
3) then hit start button once to turn off power
4) then remove foot from accelerator
5) then waite for 2 minutes
4) then start the engine like normal and try it out! "

Sounds like the resetting of the ECU learning ability of our driving style....

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

From what I read about this solution is that it resets the transmission software.
The technical term is TBA reset: "Throttle Body Adaptation" reset.

It's supposed to be Resetting the Adaptive Driver Memory for the transmission.

Ya ya, that's the correct terms to use, ha ha. My explanation very layman :)

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Does this work on e90 ? My seems to have this issue too.

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Not sure about the E90 though as the discussion was only for the F10s. But I should think that there is no harm trying it out. Do the E90s have the engine start/ stop button?

Tried it on my E90 320i pre FL 2006. Same same....no improvement.

Cheers

This isn't new it has been in every BMW forum . Works for e90 and e60 as well not to mention the 7 series too.

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Works even for e46, ha ha.
But I doubt it solves the jerking problems for e90.....(not sure for F10 though).

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Procedure for E9X series.

DO NOT REMOVE THE KEY DURING THIS PROCEDURE
Here it is; How to do a TBA: Throttle Body Adaptation reset.
Resetting the Adaptive Driver Memory for the transmission.

Works with any car that has Driver Adaptive Electronic Controlled Transmission.

1. Get in your car, it doesn't matter if you close the door or not.
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over. BMW: press start button – foot off brake - all idiot lights on.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the "on" position. BMW: All idiot lights on.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off position". BMW: foot off brake press start button - all idiot lights now off (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait a full 2 minutes for a full electronic alignment. Don't remove the key.
6. Start engine, drive the car, notice the difference.

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

why reset if the car is driven by you all the time
unless just bought a used car or the car has been driven by someone scared the rpm shoot over 3k rpm and count every FC km/l
just gun the accelerator for a few day, the TPS sensitivity will guai guai listen to your right foot
just return from a good run at msia NSH and my throttle is so obedient now

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Resetting is always a good thing. Your driving behavior changes with time.

Having said that, I cannot say that the procedure is noticeable.

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

This resets the tranmission adaptation. There is no throttle body in E90 or for that matter E60 or F10 they use valvetronic for accelaration.

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Did that and seems like now the gear will change at higher RPM...

Re: PROBLEM SOLVED!!... If your F10 has hesitation or jerks at 0-10 mph

Yes thanks that cleared up the rough jerky start from stop
