Problem with New 325 Convertible

Hi Guys,

Hope that you can give some comments regards to this post.

My mom just got a new 325 convertible.
We collected it last week. Beautiful car u must agree..... love the sleek lines and the smooth engine and great handling....

The next couple of days driving the car, there is a "burning rubber" smell in the car.
Called up PM and they told my mom to bring it in.
The official reply from them is that this happens to new cars. You have to drive 2000kms before the smell goes away. This is due to the grease on the undercarriage of new cars.

Now, is this true???

Is this normal for new BMWs?

PS: If you see a 60+ woman in a black 325 convertible.... its her... hahaha.... better give way... she drives faster than most men....

smelt the same thing on the 335i Cabrio test car. thot it was from my driving...
oh well....

u smell it inside the car or outside? i smell it only after i stop the car...

Very normal. Nothing to worry abt. Could take a long time to go away.

the reply from Performance Motors is close but not accurate.

From porsche forum: [Most conti cars] are protected with a material called Cosmoline for shipping and delivery. It will burn off over time but there will be a distinct smell that will be observed during that time.

My new Subaru also got this burning smell, izit also protected by Cosmoline?!

the reply from Performance Motors is close but not accurate.

From porsche forum: [Most conti cars] are protected with a material called Cosmoline for shipping and delivery. It will burn off over time but there will be a distinct smell that will be observed during that time.

NOt cosmoline. Another similar material. And the Japanese material is better, as it does not give out such a bad smell as cosmoline.

My Benz also got this virgin smell!
