Shell in Singapore - Shell Station Price Board

This is the 5th time prices went up since jul's implementation of 7% GST and its 7c this time round. 98 is now $1.929 after station discount. even with Dividend card of another 5%, its still $1.833! looks like i'm switching over to Mobil since its giving Citi card holders 8%...$1.775...still quite ex i would think

Just changed 74,100 of my OCBC points to $380 worth of Shell vouchers. Can lesser the pain a bit for now.

can never understand how these options/ futures work...got any crash courses to attend to learn some info?

after station discount is 2.089...u stil filling it up with that?

at least OCBC allow for conversion to vouchers, more worth it IMO. shell escape only allow on spot redemption, think max is $40, which is less than half tank.

What is your mileage like? I am getting 300 km (mostly city driving) for a full tank (64 litres) i think.

With expectations that it will hit US$100 a barrel, i have no doubts that it will hit USD$100 before it will recede to a constant level for a while.

when it hits $100, looks like price will be up by about 10-20c?

Your mileage is Ferrari standard lah, are you sure? You must use onboard computer.

Onboard computer says 20.1L/100km. So that (64L/300km = 4.69km/L) is not too far off the mark. Hopefully this is just for the run in period and things will get better soon. According to the manual the urban mileage should be 17.9L/100km. It doesn't help that my commute to work doesn't involve expressway driving (bukit timah / city / bukit timah) and i am always on sports mode

running in I think (and I read) you should not use sports mode. It blasts the throttle open so fast, it jerks the drivetrain etc. before it should be jerked. Do slow smooth movements during run in, that is, if you want to own the car for some time, otherwise, just drive it as if you stole it.

Anyway, your mileage is pretty scary, and makes me more appreciative of my little 2.7-er.

Sports mode doesn't have to be jerky if one has an educated foot

For break in there are two schools of thought: (i) baby the car for the first 3000km (ii) drive it like you stole it once the car is warmed up (see the thread on air cooled pcars by BorisRS).

Not sure which is the right philosophy but i think i will shoot for somewhere in between. Something along the lines of

Remus, if educated foot, then why put sports mode? Normal mode has more latitude for throttle modulation, and IMHO sports mode is to ease mashing of the throttle and also facilitate high rpm heeltoe (blip to 3.5-4K).

I agree with your inbetween breakin philosophy, but in the manual, the specific instruction is

The problem with sports mode is that it is harder to modulate the throttle. Therefore the jerkiness comes in when one steps too hard initially and has to let go of throttle abruptly to compensate.

It is possible to modulate the throttle in sports mode however with an educated foot such that the jerkiness mentioned above is avoided. The biggest benefit of sports mode imho is that the shifts are noticeably faster (with a tiptronic). The second biggest benefit of sports mode in a tip is that i start at 1st gear instead of 2nd gear when i am on manual override. Of course it also compensates for a lazy (albeit sensitive) right foot and tricks the mind into thinking that it is a faster car

I think porsche deliberately sets the break in limit at 4200 rpm with a big safety margin. So 5000 / 6000 rpm should be fine as long as the engine is warmed up. I have to say that the biggest difference between the 997 and the old 986 is that acceleration off the line is brutal with the amount of traction on the rear wheels, thanks to the fat rear tyres (295/35) and significant rear weight bias of the 997. The car feels like it is being catapulted off the line in pole position traffic light starts.

u r absolutely right, I forgot tiptronic shift is faster in sports mode. So you have to do in sports mode all the time.

i find the prices of fuel in Singapore getting ridiculous. crude oil is traded in USD and seeing that the Sing Dollar has appreciated against the USD by quite a huge margin, i don't see why the oil companies are still jacking up their prices.
