Rear-in Camera

Hi bros,

I'm wondering about installing a rear view in car camera on the E90 for the missus parking.

Any advise? Will it affect the computer etc ?

Any insights and feedbacks or suggestions including which type/branch and where to install are most welcome!

A million thanks in advance...

:D

Re: Rear-in Camera

are your e90 m3?

Re: Rear-in Camera

Sori, OT abit......actually with all the reverse sensors and beeping, how many of you really take reverse camera view as your main guide while doing reversing??

Re: Rear-in Camera

Seeing is believing. The camera view is alot better than the beep sound.

Re: Rear-in Camera

The camera wasn't a standard on mine.

But the camera is very useful to detect kids running across the back of the car which the sensors won't be able to detect. But for parking, I usually use the beeper to judge the distancem

Re: Rear-in Camera

The beepers can beep you up to about 4 inches accuracy. The camera can bring you to within one inch. Very useful at parallel parking.

Re: Rear-in Camera

Hi guys, sorry to revive an old thread. For the 3-series, BMW doesn't have an OEM option right? Which models did you guys end up fitting? Any reviews?

Re: Rear-in Camera

Not sure abt oem but for mine, an e90 LCI, Ive upgraded my stock HU to a double din one, added the reverse camera for piggyback sake.

Re: Rear-in Camera

For the kit you installed, do you still retain the PDC functions, and is there an overlay of the PDC "radar picture" over your reverse video feed?

Re: Rear-in Camera

Yes, you still retain the PDC functions (ie. there is an overlay of the radar picture of your cam view)
There is an OEM version of the camera (which I'm told costs a bomb - read a few k) but I went for the after-market camera which works equally fine.

Wow that's expensive. Hopefully mods like that won't void warranty. Will check these out. Thanks!

Re: Rear-in Camera

Yup, I saw that one while googling too, but not sure if anyone here's tried it. There's a fair bit of fisheye effect. Does yours have the distance guidelines?

The fish eye effect is due to using a wide angle lens so that the camera can capture as much as possible for the driver to see.

Mine does not have parking guidelines or obstacle markings. The PDC does work.

For parking guidelines and obstacle markings, you will need an OEM module and I believe that may not be cheap.

There's a lot of info here

Notes on a 2012 E92 M3 with a BimmerTech rear camera kit install

You're welcome to have a look at mine if you near my office. ;)
