Re: Reason for long waiting Qs for patient in Tan Tock Seng
Government sector doctors' salaries have not been reviewed for a whopping 20 years, so this pay rise is nothing short of timely.
This pay review is also an attempt to retain talent in the pubic sector. With the kind of patient workload and additional responsibilities that are piled on them like teaching, research and admin, its no wonder many consultants leave for private practice.
A doctor's job is really not as glamorous as most pple perceive. Especially for the junior doctors/trainees, with the long hours and relatively low pay. It doesn't help when they don't feel appreciated either. For info, post-calls are a privilege, not an entitlement. So when manning is short, no post-call.
Remember that most of them come from good schools, are all-rounders, and had good results that won them a place in medical school, so they are not exactly short of opportunities to pursue other career tracks.
Of course if they cross-dress and do funny things, then nothing to say leow. Haha... (see tdy's papers)
