Reliability of the F10 523 gearbox

Pls get it changed, as fresh atf fluid is always good for gearbox.

Should I change ATF only or ATF+oil pan at 100k km. Heard from someone that it's better to change ATF only for 1st time to prevent "shock" to the tranny

Who says BWM GB has lifetime oil that does not need to change..

I’ll be looking for F10 523i to replace my E90 320i soon. Looking forward to enjoy the N52 which famous with its reliability.

After seeing this thread, it makes me worry to experienced the same gearbox problem with my E90 GM 6 speed gearbox.

It has the same symptom and finally cost me an gearbox overhaul.

Is there a way to check that the gearbox will be in trouble soon when you test drive the car?

My E90 seems to have smooth gear change when I first bought it at 112.000 km and went to transmission fault a year after.

All you'll read here is issues and problems. No one ever takes to the forum to say that their cars have 0 issues. Have your car checked by a reputable mechanic yes PAY for a pre purchase inspection. Theres still no guarentee there wont be issues further down the road depends on how you drive. Alternative is buy a warranty from places like optima werkz for like 2 years. With a 2nd hand car nothing is certain

Age and mileage determines type and size of the issues.
You will only have less major issues if you buy a well looked after car.
For those warranties, I would not even consider it.
