No wonder mine can unlock from like 3 streets away.
Sorry for OT.
OT: Why do u need to unlock so far away?

Re: Remote key range to lock/unlock

Just now I tried unlocking, as usual unsuccessful. Then i tried again at same spot, but with the key touching my thigh. And it works! Shall try again tomorrow and report.

Now that explains the different distance experienced by different people...It depend on the length of your antenna...:lol2:

State of antenna important?:laughlik::laughlik:

Ermm. For example you are in a new shopping centre car park, you are dead sure that u park at level B2. But you lose your sense of direction because you came down from another lift lobby.
So you hope to unlock your car with the headlight turn on so that you can spot your car?

Second senario, you parked your car in open air and it is raining cats and dogs. Unfortunately, you did not bring an umbrella. The car is running distance from the shelter where you are standing.
Under normal circumstance, you will use your remote to unlock your car first, make a dash towards the car, open the door quickly, sit and close the door. Of course, alternatively you can also run towards your car, while holding on to your remote and unlock the car when is nearer to the car.
But I will prefer the first option. :)

For 1st scenerio: As every1 would have a smart fone wif camera, take a pic of nearest exit and pillar. I m driving a classic car w/o any blinking headlite.

For 2nd scenerio: Wait for the rain to stop.

Lastly, long distance remote signal could be pickup by scanner.

Re: Remote key range to lock/unlock

Someone has posted previously in another thread to try what Top Gear recommended, which is to use your body as an antenna to transmit the signal. I have experimented pressing the remote with the remote in my pocket touching my hip and the effective distance is indeed much farther! I think it does not matter which direction the remote is pointing at since it is operating on radio frequency which is omnidirectional.

+1 confirm. Just touch ur chin and press, the theory works for me since in 90's till today.

Re: Remote key range to lock/unlock

apparently my body is not a good antenna... it made it worse.. hahha

Bro, my range for the remote keys are very short, I have to stand quite close (e.g. 5-10 foot steps) before I can lock or unlock my ride. My previous two rides have longer range compared to current beemer where I can at least stand 5 cars away. If I need to stand so close, what is the purpose of the "welcome lights" which is suppose to guide you to you car in very dark places and not when I need to find my car first and unlock the car to turn on the welcome lights.

I have complained to my SE and he replied is due to my 3M solar film and BMW actually does not recommend solar films. What rubbish is this?

My ride is E90 LCI 320i. Is this normal? My friend driving 318 LCI is experiencing the same. Are all bro experiencing the same? Should I send back PML to resolve this?

Bro, it is not rubbish that the sun film is causing the problem. you may want to try this out urself for the answer.

Wind down all your windows and walk to a distant then activate to remote, It will work and vice verser, the problem came back.
(Sad to say that the design for Beemers remote is a Fuck up:furious::furious: to place the antenne at the rear just becos o'seas Drivers park their car head in unlike Sg)

Re: Remote key range to lock/unlock

I suspect German/Conti cars has strict restriction on the strength of RF transmission which limit the distance of operation unlike Jap/Korean which can be operated miles away.....

Re: Remote key range to lock/unlock

Any advice if the keyless entry's sensitivity can be adjusted or repaired? Some times work and some times doesnt
