Ok, I am back with my second review of the other reputable and highly recommended spray painter after doing my 1st review of Sin Wee Chuan (Mike).
My friend, let's call him Peter, sent in his grey E60 5 days earlier than me to Yew Lip. He also wanted to spray his whole car to Alpine White, another big project for any spray painter to do a good job.
Angie, who is the boss, told him quite cryptically "Give me 3 weeks, don't rush me". Peter said OK and left the car there for his 3 weeks agonizing wait, which ends 19 March 2010.
On 16 March, 3 days earlier than the deadlne, Angie called Peter and said his car was ready at 5.30pm. So Peter went to Yew Lip in great anticipation and when he reached there, he SMSed me non-stop for over an hour "My car is awesome", "My heart cannot stop beating", "I am orgasing just looking at my car"...and other obscenities included. His car wasn't ready until about 7pm+ because Angie refused to allow Peter to drive it off until her workers had completely cleaned and washed the car inside out. Peter offered to clean the interior himself but Angie said "Let my people do it, don't spoil them".
The next day, I met with Peter to view his car and compared it with mine side by side.
Yew Lip's workmanship is excellent as well, I did not see any orange peel on the paintwork and the lacquer was nicely done. Attention to detail was also not lacking. I proceeded to check on some of the grooves and lining. Good job, everything was done nicely. However, I spotted some rough areas which Peter noted down. I believe it might have been missed out due to the bad lighting in Sin Min area since these few days the sky has been cloudy and raining.
Peter, being an impatient perfectionist on his car, immediately called Angie to "complain" about these rough edges. Angie did not hesitate to tell Peter to zoom down at his leisure for her to get her workers to rectify any imperfections IMMEDIATELY. That's service for you.
The next day Peter went down to Yew Lip to to the paint refining. Angie instructed her workers to attend to Peter's car immediately and even threw in a lot of freebies such as spraying signal lights to smoked colour, applying lacquer on places which did not even see the light of day, such as door hinges. Angie said she is very particular about customer satisfaction.
All in all, Peter was very satisfied with the level of service and promptness shown by Angie and the workers at Yew Lip. As they say, No Horse Run. When Peter told me Angie said she would guarantee her paintwork for as long as the car belonged to Peter, I had to reply "I believe her" as Angie is a woman of her words from my previous experience with her
So Sin Wee Chuan or Yew Lip? My answer would be "it depends". It depends on who you are comfortable with and it depends on who you want to place your trust in. it also depends on what you are looking for, service with a smile, no-nonsense professionalism, prompt attentiveness or superb quality with no compromises. It depends on whether you want to deal with a female or male.
SWC and Yew Lip are excellent choices and while I believe there are many good spray painters out there, I can honestly say that these two deserve the Gold Standard, at least for BMW cars. I placed my trust in Mike upon recommendation by close friends here while Peter chose Angie due to his utmost trust in her. Both of us did not misplace our trust. Both delivered outstandingly and before deadline set by them. Both stressed on high quality and uncompromising standards of work.
The end result speaks volumes and here are some pics:-
