RFT Internal Patching

Hi guys,

Got a couple of questions regarding the RFT on my E90.

1) Which workshop you guys know does internal patching on RFT? I've called 3-4 workshops none offer that solution and mentioned that RFT can't be patched that way. :juggle:

2) My RFT got punctured sometime back last year which I went to do an external patch job at SinMing area but think the job probably wasn't done properly I have pressure leak in that RFT and I have to regularly inflat it every few other days. Can the RFT, after an external patch job, be patched again internally? :juggle:

Hi,

I am of the opinion that you should change that set of tyres, or only the front or rear set of it (depending on whether it's your front or rear tyre). In general, if the damage is to the broadside of the tyre, you may have a better chance of patching it. However if it is due to the sidewall, then most likely you will have to change it.

Patching to me is only a temporary measure, it will leak again (as you have said). You will be at great risk especially when you are cruising say like 80km/h and above. Poor patching may cause the affected tyre to burst or "explode".

Having said all that, I advise you to replace it instead of further patching it.

yes internal repair is the only recommended method,but unfortunately both BMW do not recon tyre repair even you can see that is remarked on your runflat tyre sidewall stated can not repair.
But i think you can still save your tyre in the even of punctured when the TPMS prompted you just drive within 80km/h as recommended by BMW and go to nearest pump station and get all 4 tyres repump to recommended pressure if possible go to your regular shop for checking for punctured tyre and get it fix internally so that can have a complete internal inspection for any internal demaged and put back to service again.
sidewall repair is not allow at all,and if you can find any punctured runflat sign inside the internal sidewall better change it .
So only way to know the repaied tyre is it safe to put back on the road isto do a complete internal inspection and patch.

Thank you, Alan and Robert, for your comments.

The pressure leak is from rhs front and back tyres. So if I have to replace the tyres I have to replace all 4. My ride is about 1.6 yrs old and the tyres look like that they can last perhaps 6 months till end 09. So far the RFT indicator did not show up I reckon the tyre pressure leak ain't too bad that's why I pump up all 4's ever few other days.

Anyways I dunno if the sidewall's been damaged or not but this weekend I'll head down to a workshop to have the tyres looked at. If they aint' repairable then no choice gotta replace them.
