i tried the PS2... from what i feel, the SO3 is more quiet, the PS2 seems to be ok in rain, the SO3 is also good in the rain too. Anyways, i think the SO3 wld be a better choice for singapore's weather and climate. i think for 18" it should be sound the range of 250- 300 dollars a tire.

But SO3s are damn heavy. I juz switched from S03s to Pilot Sports 1 (becoz I can't afford PS2) and I love them. They are much lighter and so much more comfortable. I also did not find them noisy.

PS2, I dun even dare to ask. Also, they dun have full range of tyre size yet, so some who like PS still have to go for PS1.

I am on a staggered setup. I paid special price (so the tyre shop said) of $1650 all in for: 235/40/18 x 2 (front tyres) and 265/35/18 (rear tyres).

For the same combo, SO3s wld cost $1600. These tyres are on a e39 5 series and not 3 series.

Think that is a good price for PS1
I paid 1.6k for 225/45/18 and 255/40/18 SO-3 ( but again it's a special indent coz of the unique specs so probably got hammered abit)

Wow, I was originally thinking about getting PS2 but from the looks of it, might have to re-consider. Any comments on price versus value for:

1) PS2
2) S-O3
3) CSC2

Btw, heard a remark from someone that there's no point in paying something like $450 for one tyre. Reason being that the thread will still eventually wear out and if it hits a nail, it'll still puncture. :whattheh:

Need to make my decision by this week so would appreciate any inputs from bros out there!

i say go for the S-03... it'll be good. you won't be paying more than 300 per tire for any of the brands u just mentioned. it's all good.

shaaz,

I believe PS2 will be in the region of $450 or thereabouts...

For 18"???... u sure.. my friend just paid his for 17" for no more than 250.. so.. im thinking then diff can't be that much rite?.

shaaz,

Yep, asked already..Was quoted something like $450 per tyre for 18". That's why I'm also looking at other options to see if I can stretch my dollar a bit more.

The last i checked... Pirelli Rosso ( 225/40/18 ), selling $300 each at leong seng.
not bad tyre ;)

Pricing wise (cheapest to most exp) : SO3 , CSC2 then PS2

SO3 : Heavy due to the stiff side wall which is steel braided. Great for cornering as it has little flex due the stiffness. Wet traction is superb. Minimal aqua-planing due to the wide grooves design. Ride is abit hard, noise level are thread life are average.

CSC2 : The lightest amongst all. Very soft compound hence dry traction and braking grip are very good. Performance in the wet is average (Lack of V grooves probably the culprit).Decent ride comfort and thread life. Pretty good handling but dont think as good as SO3 in my experience.

PS2 : The most expensive one :shoot:
Superb traction tyres with great handling. Great for autocross. Thread life is average too, PS1 has better thread life. Noise level is probably the lowest amongst all.

Pretty tough choice bro..
Price aside, PS2 should rank 1, followed by SO3 then CSC2...

A ride on 17in is clearly more comfortable and acceleration is surely faster too. Also the rims and tyres are cheaper. Fuel consumption is probably a tad lower...

just out of interest, when you say faster do you mean by reference to 18 inch rims?
would the stock 16 inch rims be the fastest?

mistraele,

Yep , was comparing btwn 17 n 18.
U want faster acceleration in the straight line? Go for 16.
But due to the narrower and maximum permissible width of the 16 rims, the roadholding and level of grip are compromised. In otherwords, the bigger ones are better in this aspect.

Give me the details for ur tyre.. i'll check for you at my frens' workshop. PS2 rite?.

Yep, let me know how much you can get per tyre ya? Thks!

yo bro.. 18"??... i need the full details for the tire.. then i'll check for you . no worries .... :)

They're 18"/235/40 tyres. Let me know ya!

hi. agree with Tanzy on the AspecdB... dangerous in the wet, even if u r not tracking... another bro reco: Dragon... too pricey for its quality imho, moreover have smth better to reco ... think abt Bridgestone GIII (one cut below the popular tracker's/benger's S03). personally, exactly as per your priority setting... imho.
