Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

Hello folks

Been thinking of changing my rims to 18" but do not like the idea of increasing my unsprung weight. So thinking about:
(A) Getting a forged Prodrive 18" with non-RFT (http://www.prodrive-japan.com/products/)
OR
(B) Getting a BBS/BMW 162 or 216 (this is stock for 320si) and fit non-RFT

Questions:
(1) Anyone knows what is the offset and PCD for the E90?
I would like to have an offset that is as close to stock as possible.

(2) How strong are the forged Prodrives?
Last thing I want is to crack the rims on our local B roads... just can't understand why our roads are still so bad with all the road tax collected.....

(3) Anyone knows how heavy are the 162 and the 216?
There is a good promo on the 162 now and below is a pic of the 216

Thanks

Re: Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

Standard E90 offset should be 35mm for 8J Rims

18" BMW rims should be in region of 12kg. If u stick to BMW rims, u r almost certain that the unsprung weight will increase, compared to your current rims.

ProDrive rims should be 2/3 of that weight. Common rims like BBS at 18" should be in the 8-10kg range. Else, try the OZ Ultraleggar, which is slightly above 8kg. And if u r very particular about unsprung weight, then PS2 is the way to go too..

If u go thru a big pot holes at full speed, all rims will dent, regardless of whether stock or forged. :)

Re: Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

Hi piggyboyz

So offset for the front is 35mm as its 8J. How about for the rear which is 8.5J?
BTW, do you know the PCD for the E90? (5 x ???)

Are BBS that light? 8 - 10 kg? The BBS CSL and CH looks great too.

Thanks

:) very tempted..... but I am still trying to find the PCD and the offset to use.
Secondly on Prodrive's website, I can't find them listing E90 under the "applications" section.

Re: Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

found......

(1) List of BMW rims with offset numbers:
http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/?felge=1280

(2) Based on 225/40-18 and 255/35-18, the weight difference between regular and runflats don't seem to be that much:

Potenza RE050 runflat: 25lbs. & 26lbs
Potenza RE050: 25lbs, & 27lbs
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2: 21lbs, & 24lbs
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22229&highlight=162+weight

Style 162 (with Bridgestone RFT, inflated)
Front (18x8, 225 / 40 / 18 ): 56.5 lbs
Rear (18x8.5, 255 / 35 / 18 ): 59.0 lbs
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11554

So the 162s weighs 31.2 lbs / 32 lbs...... (ouch! They are HEAVY)

you should try weighting the stock 16" with RFT, and you will be very surprise the 16" + RFT is even heavier than my 18" + non-RFT. :yikess:

just my 2 cents.

216 is very very nice. Heard from PML parts that someone is considering it - about $700+/pc before discount. :)

Cool!!
Do you have the numbers? Stock 16" with RFT and your 18" with non-RFTs.
What 18" rims are those and what non-RFTs?

Thanks

Nope i don't have numbers for 16"+RFT cos the tire shop doesn’t any weighing machine. it was just out of curiosity that I tried to lift the stock 16”+RFT, while mounting my previous rep M6 rims 18” + PS2 225/40/18, than I found out the weight of the 16”+RFT was so heavy. I couldn’t believe the 16”+RFT are heavier than the 18”. Than I ask the tire shop guy to confirm the weight again, sure thing the 16”+RFT were heavier? Oh well BMW don’t call them RFT for nothing!

I am currently on OEM type 71 18” + PS2 225/40/18

HI achtung, hard to tell, best is if you can check with your SE to see if they can get a better price for you. $700/pc is not cheap though when compared to aftermarket rims. Good luck in your search!

Thanks for the quick reply.
Are you using staggered sizes? i.e. 225/40/18 for the front and 255/35/18 for the rear?
How much are the PS2? :uhhh:

Re: Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

was down at leong seng AGAIN today.... was told that the prodrive gc07 only come in offset of +39.

get it, get it, get it, get it..........

Re: Rims for E90 (Prodrive, BBS, BMW)

Ahctung

1) First of all, PCD of E90 is 5*120 just like the rest of BMW models.
Offsets of stock E90 rims are typically +35mm front on 8J and +37mm rear on 8.5J
So that's good start.

2) All forged rims are strong, the strongest one I think being the monoblock type. Prodrive rims are mostly if not all Monoblock type. They are rims that are competititvely used in racing, just like Volk Racing. So the strength n lightweight factors are assuring.

The lightest material is obviously magnesium type of rim but they are not suitable for street use, only racing such as those BBS rims used on E46 M3 GTR and extremely expensive.

Currently in prodrive rims offering for BMW, they are only for E39 and E46 so if u wish to get one set, u are goin to hv to be content with the E46 offsets which are bit off from the E90 but still ok.

Models like GCO7C 18in have +39mm all around on 8.5 and 9.5J if u go staggered while GCO10E has +38mm offset on 8.5J

So u go figure. I'd think u dont hv alot of choices but the nearest to your stock offset is +38mm on 8.5J all around.

Gd Luck
