hi,

was wondering if it's safe to run 215/45/17 semi-slicks on 17x8 rims.

was talking to mark at the previous track day and got interested in what he had to offer.

manufacturer actually recommends 6.5-7.5 inch rims.

see here under FTZ Sport Type RR: www.silverstone.com.my

TripleM,
last time you were sms-ed me about some cheap track tires from stamford issit? was it continentals? i forgot liao

Re: safe to run 215/45/17 on 17x8 rims?

Yep Continental Competition it's called but that was 18 in 225/45 specs
Dunno if they still have them. It's quite streetable as well, got lots of grooves

215/45/17 on 8J rims are fine :)

FYG 225/45/17 sits well within 7-8.5J rims, while 205/45/17 sits well within 5.5-7.5
So 215 can sit in btwn 6.25-8J if u do the maths...hahaha

Re: safe to run 215/45/17 on 17x8 rims?

okie doke. thanks pak! math not my forte la.

anyway, will using narrower tires alter my handling?

will the loss in contact patch area and increased grip from the semi-slicks cancel each other out? ie to say, would i be better off just getting trackable street tires?

Re: safe to run 215/45/17 on 17x8 rims?

I'd take semi slick tires on the track anytime for 10mm less in the width size coz after all for 2 main factors : probably larger contact patch and of course the R compound.

hv u check with robert abt hankook tyre. its better u go down to their toh guan outlet to see range they hv yourself.

Re: safe to run 215/45/17 on 17x8 rims?

yes, thanks for the contact!

i've checked with robert... price rather high for kim chi tires though. comparable to RT615 and silverstone semi slicks.

will drive down one day to see how much they'll offer for trade in of my gr-80.

i saw in the US website the trackie has good review on the Hankook RS2 n Z211.Even some local trackie used RS2 is giving a thumb up on the RS2 against the Yokohama AD07 here. I think its worth to try. Anyway did u inform robert that u r a member of the club he would probably give u a better discount
