seized brake caliper

ok, so the brakes have no bite, and I feel around and find one of the discs is cool to the touch.

I take the caliper off and the pads have plenty of meat.
I try the brakes to see if the pads move, and they don't. Stuck piston in the caliper. :furious:

Take a closer look, and it's rusted like shit. Anyone have any ideas how to free it?

Am I looking at new seals or a new caliper?

Re: seized brake caliper

gotta rebuild it. new seals etc, possibly hone the piston bore and sleeve it as well

Bugger. I wouldn't mind having a go at that, but I can't even get the old piston to pop out. Tapped it with a hammer while applying brake pressure, and it just won't move.

I guess a junkyard hunt for a new old caliper is on the cards.

Thanks.

Re: seized brake caliper

no, remove it and soak it in WD40 or similar

but i bet it's rusty and pitted inside. needs full rebuild
