Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

People like this give BMW drivers a bad name...

You 'own' the parking lot?

What. An. Idiot.

For pictures of public carpark lot 'owner' and his car registration number -
STOMP - Singapore Seen - Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

All a STOMPer wanted to do was to quickly pop in to a supermarket along Tanjong Pagar Road and head off, but the STOMPer encountered a man who stood in a parking lot to reserve it for his wife's BMW and even flashed his middle finger at the STOMPer.

Said the STOMPer:

"I was annoyed by a man who stood in a parking lot trying to reserve it when I was right in front of the lot and ready to park.

"On Sunday, Sep 16, around 2.30pm, I went to the Korean super mart at Tanjong Pagar Road to shop.

"The other lots were taken so I waited. Just as I saw a car preparing to leave, I drove over to the lot.

"However, out of nowhere, this man just popped out and stood in the lot and 'choped' the lot, not allowing me to park although I was already right in front of the lot.

"I tried to reverse but he didn't budge, so I got out of the car to ask if he could move away.

"He said his shop was right in front of the parking lot and he deserves this spot.

"And he stood on the parking lot for a full 10 minutes before his wife drove into the parking space with their BMW.

"He went on to say, 'I am rich enough to own the shophouse, that’s why the lot belongs to me.'

"Please correct me if I am wrong, isn’t the unsaid 'law' about parking into lots is first-come-first-served?

"As I continued to ask the man to move away, I was ignored, and the man also said that because he was driving a better car (BMW) than me (a Camry), he deserves the lot more than I do.

"I'm not sure how it escalated into an argument but the man started swearing loudly with 'F' words, even at my mum and my girlfriend.

"The photo as attached is the captured shot of the old man with his middle finger high up in the air.

"I didn't manage to get my things in the end. I stopped my car at the roadside while my mum and girlfriend stayed in the car to snap the photo of him.

"His car is also pictured (black BMW) and that is his maid loading items (a stepladder) into the boot.

"The entire episode lasted about 20 minutes."

Actually, if you are the owner of a shophouse there, what would you do?

In a similar context for landed property, there are two sides to a coin......

There's parking lot markings on the road. It's a public parking lot. Those parking lots are meant for the public to park their car there to buy stuff or makan.

For the landed property case, it's fair to say it's ok to park there since we do visit friends, relatives or parents who lives in private estate. However, drivers must park their cars properly and not blocking the entrance of the property owners there. I've seen some cheapskate drivers who park in private estate just to save on season parking fee in their HDB estate.

Maybe Robot should share his views since he stay in a GCB.

I have seen cases where land properties owners have more than 2 cars and they had to park one car outside their houses. It is a grey area whether a visitor has more right than the owner to park his car outside some residents' house (not blocking gate/entrance). No lot drawn, but also public places, though some can be illegal parking....

It depends whether you are the visitor or the owner.......

Sometimes really bo bian one since it is public area. Of course the public must also be considerate. If you do not have any business to be there then don't park your car there and choke up the road there. I believe good neighbours will inform each other when they have guests who will be parking their cars outside and around their unit.

Sidetrack a bit .... at times I do see robot's car parked along westerhout road. :shhhh:

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

guys, i'm not supporting either party where the carpark lot is concerned - it's a case of 1st come 1st served. so if the fellow wants to stand there for a full 10 mins to 'chope' the lot, that's his prerogative, and he has every right to the lot since he was there first. at least he's physically there and not using a proxy like a dustbin, chair or potted plant (which is much more legit that the packets of tissue paper used to 'chope' seats - ask the people working in the CBD and they will tell you their frustrations.)

what i do not condone is the attitude that this particular BMW driver has displayed. what he said is totally not representative of the BMW community. it is precisely because of assholes like him that we get a bad rep.

the comments he made were totally uncalled for . so what if you drive a f*cking bimmer? entire premise of the argument is wrong and intentionally provocative in nature.

so does driving a bimmer make him an arrogant douchebag? or do douchebags gravitate towards bimmers?

you see what i'm trying to get at?

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

How certain are we that the STOMPER is 100% truthful?

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

doesn't matter whether he's truthful...

whenever bimmer drivers are featured, it's almost always negative.

makes me embarrassed to be driving a bimmer, cos i'm an asshole by association...

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

Whenever there are bimmers doing bad things, the title of the thread or article sure start with "BMW driver xxxxx xxxxx". I think because BMW very easy to spell as compared to Chevorlett or Mitshubitshi or Lambogini.

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

Audi also easy to spell....

Re: Shophouse owner says parking lot belongs to him, and even points middle finger

Time to clear all BMW position and buy into other blue chip German cars.
Audi and Benz are quite easy to spell but I know Porsche can be a bit of a challenge to some.
