Silverish Lining in E46 Headlights

Thanks for the help and the warm welcome guys! Just curious... what is the OEM part number for this? And are there shops there in Singapore that could sell me the part and FEDEX or DHL the part to me? Websites and contact details of these shops would be greatly appreciated! :) I was originally thinking of ordering it from the US - Bavarian Autosport (www.bavauto.com) Part # : 63 12 0 152 433, and it costs US$77.95 w/o shipping. I was hoping to find a cheaper source and I hope you Bimmerheads in Singapore can give me a heads up!

TheWhiteCometOfMakati,

u can try using this site to find the part number:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

i would suggest you search ebay too, they may have occassional bargains.

TheWhiteCometOfMakati, welcome to the forum!!

As for the headlight trim, u can try spraying it yourself, like what ryan said. It'll only cost you the price of a high temp silver spray can and some hours fitting it!!

Cheers!

Looking at the link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showpart...=47639&prod=20040800&btnr=63_0638&hg=63&fg=95

(sorry for the long link guys)

I noticed that removing the headlight cover from the assembly might crate problems for resealing the glass cover to the housing. According to our local dealer, such a process will void warranty since there is no guarantee that moisture will be blocked off once the original seal of the headlight is tampered with...

Any experiences among your Singapore Bimmer heads?

TheWhiteCometOfMakati,

Firstly, a warm welcome!

Regarding ur concern on the sealing, dun have to worry. The E46 headlight cluster is very easy to dismantle and assemble back. Its juz clips and not a single nut is being removed.

Just make sure the plastic clips are not broken.

If u are worried that the sealing will not be as good as new, buy a set of the rubber seal for replacement during assembly.

Please do not paint the trim but instead spray them. Use heat resistance spray paint.

Happy DIY...

oneHeadlight,

Any of the workshops can do them for u... but u can always get the DIY instructions from the net and do it yourself!

I had mine done during the Jan meetup!! hahaha!

After all your suggestions... I'm planning to take the plunge and have it done right after I take delivery of my car this coming Sunday. I need some help... what paint should i use? Is it possible for me to use the Original Paint of my car (Titanium Silver) and spray coating over it? Or use the regular High-Temp paint sold in spray cans. The reason I'm asking this is because the gloss of the hi-temp paint might not be as radiant as the factory paint color.

Another question. What brand of high temp paint do you guys use? Is it the same one used to paint headers and exhaust pipings? What color is the closest one to Titanium silver, the ones I find are all "Aluminum"

Thanks a bunch guys! And thanks again for Welcoming me into this Singapore community ;)

Azrielsc,

Thanks man. Interesting how taste differs. My car is black and i thought the silver trimmings are pretty nice, altho i've only seen them in silver and gun-metal coloured cars..

I saw the process of fixing in the angel eye. Removing the headlamp cluster is easy, though there are a few screws and clips that you need to know the location. A long box-spanner is required. Lamp cover is clipped on, and since your car is new, you should not worry about the seal not as effective.

Alternative option: Buy a second set of trim and spray paint it first. Then go to a workshop and ask them to fix it. The labour charge you pay saves you the time (and risk of breaking anything). Then, (if for financial reasons), you can sell off the first set of trims.

Anyone happen to wanna exchange their silver ones with my black one, just like what azrielsc did ? I wud be very keen to do it. Thanks.
