I have a 325 SMG too. I tend to lift off alittle bit of pressure when I shift. If not the car jerks. Does your car sometimes have a clunk sound when you downshift from 3rd to 2nd at a stop?
I think driving in sports mode is going to get you shifting the fastest. But from response I'm getting from my car it would seem that it's also the method that would cost the most wear and tear on the system.

Bro, are u refer to the car jerks when the car slowing down from 3rd to 2nd gear while crusing to a stop ??

I did check with the German guys and he assured me that that is normal. One reason why it happens especially on a 325 is that the final drive is shorter and hence the jerk..

It happens on my car as well and i kind of get rid of it when i got them to re-programme my SMG and somehow, i got better especially when they bring up the idling revv a little to 750rpm from 700rpm..

For M3, pulling and holding the left paddle on an incline, activates an incline assist. which revs the engine and slips the clutch to balance on a slope.

Is there any indication that the incline assist is on? Maybe I should try to see if my 325 got this. Try to check with pml on this but they say they have no idea. Sigh..... Thanks anyway for all you help

The hill assist is only available on the SMG II, not only the normal SMG car.

To me, it's a second nature liao ! Just transfer the brake from right foot to left foot and load the accelerator a little before letting go your left foot does all the trick !

Use the same thing when u want a brisk move off from the lights ! Just load the rpm to about 2k and let go and the car will just jack rabbit start kekeke !

Better than using the launch control mode ! Too brutal liao !

By the way, if u still don't know, off the DSC, turn on the Sport mode and kick down the pedal to the overdrive button sets the car into launch control mode for normal SMG cars..

I suggest you can try this in a deserted to get the rush... The car will revv up to 4500rpm in a split second before dumping the clutch and take off while holding on to the 4500 revv... You will probably get smoking tyres for about 2 car length but use it too often and it's time to replace the clutch... 7 times LC and it's time for new clutch according to BMW standards...

And if u like to have the M3 look on your gearshift....

I told them of the problem and showed them in a test drive... But if ur rpm at dile is a little too low, bring that up first to see if u get a difference.

For a while, the rpm stay a bit on the low side, idling at about 650 to 700 and sometime when braking briskly to halt, the enginw will die, to the same feeling like someone amature has clutch in too late and rpm falls too low and dies off..

Send my car in for reprogram. Apparently, I have the same problem. Car dies off when stationary. Thought maybe the RPS is abit low. But PML say it due to the software problem. So far after changing the software, everything seems okie.

I was just noticing today at idle my RPM was around 650 to 700. That's around the range that yuo said it was. After the re-programming does the RPM still stay at low? Haven't tried breaking too briskly yet so I don't know if mine will die off when I do so but my car hasn't died when stationary yet. Any advice? Perhaps at the meet this week you guys could test the car for me

WA !!!! U must be damn bold to post such a statement like that !! U ask ppl to test drive your car ah and break it briskly to see if it die or not ah ?? kekekeke !!!

Anyway, re-programming does not increase the rpm. U have to tell them that u r not comfortable with the low rpm and they will bring it up slightly.. the standard limit is 700 +/- 50 rpm

Do know that if u r like one of our friend who can park and idle the car for 2 hours, your fuel consumption will suffer a bit due to the increased rpm...

After my reprogram, they upped the idling speed for my car to 700+. seems to be better.

Agree with you that SMG sometimes is really a headache. But it really fun and exciting if it's running correctly.

My car is ard 1K of mileage. Still dare not whack above 3500rpm. according to the manual, it 2k mileage, not more than 4000rpm and speed less than 160km/h. So waiting for maybe another 1 week more than can really push the car a bit harder.

Just send an email to BMW AG to complain abt the car. New car and so much problem. Send in 3 times in 2 weeks. I wrote if my schedule date of repair is not done properly, then I'll take legal action. Waiting for their reply now. See how it goes. sigh...............................
