Gran Turismo had a big presence in Las Vegas last week at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show for the sixth annual Gran Turismo Awards. The Gran Turismo Awards gives exhibitors the chance to have their car immortalized in a future installment of Gran Turismo as a drivable vehicle, with Gran Turismo creator and series producer Kazunori Yamauchi judging five finalists to select the “Best of Show” winner.

Prior to the SEMA show, all exhibitors are invited to submit their car for consideration by a select panel of distinguished judges, who pick the top car in each of five different categories, including “Best Domestic,” “Best European Import,” “Best Hot Rod,” “Best Japanese Import” and “Best Truck/SUV.” Judges consist of various respected automotive journalists, and judging for each category is based on the judges’ choice for cars that exhibit a strong balance of performance and style.

After the five category winners are chosen, Yamauchi selects his favorite to receive the coveted “Best in Show” prize. This year, the winner of the “Best Japanese Import” went to JR Rocha with his custom 2007 Infiniti G37. The “Best Truck/SUV” honor was presented to John Wargo for his 1938 Chevy. The “Best European Import” award was given to Robert Gal this year for his Volkswagon Concept car. The “Best Domestic,” award was given to James Shipka for his 1967 Chevrolet Camero Rally Sport “Big Red.” The final category, “Best Hot Rod,” was awarded to Jason Lavigne for the Factory Five Racing 1933 Hot Rod.

rice mobile?

how do you define rice mobile if i may ask?

i'm sure the widebody, wing, supporting engine mods, all serves a purpose.

jap imports does not equal rice. 99% of the time they'll take any BMW, other than the prestige factor, of course.

Re: Some dude gets his car into Gran Turismo

maybe he means Tuner cars..yeah i would agree to have more bmws in that game..BUT..having Tuner cars in that game is crazy fun too..manual..wow..shiok

Re: Some dude gets his car into Gran Turismo

those are not ricey imo... those takes lots of time... and taste...and inspiration..

its a show car worthy

at least more tasteful than just slapping on single tuner brand

LOL...lets not get our panties tied up in knots fellas. Rice Mobiles are often terms of endearment in Western cultures for Jap Tuner Cars, like the term 'Red Neck' and stuff.

True, Rice Mobiles are fun in games but we've got that in NFS Underground and other similar games (i.e. GRID on PS3). I kinda prefer GT5 to remain as true to reality as possible. Once you start throwing in souped up rocket cars like these, it kinda defeats the purpose of the game. Kinda reminds of my Mitsubishi 3000GT in GT1...mad mad car that has absolutely no drivability.

Maybe if they allow the gamer to mod an Infiniti to this stage, or even throw it in as a trophy car?

Different strokes different folks fellas.

terms of endearment? uhh no, not really.

please google 'rice mobile' and you'll see that it's a degrading term for cars 'riced' out with functionless wings, ugly huge chrome rims, neon green paint and the works.

i hardly believe that the HKS evo or Spoon S2k would be called 'rice' as the cars are purposed built for a specific reason.

a lot of work went into building the G37 and just because it isn't your cup of tea doesn't make it 'rice', my good man

just my 2 cents, of course
