did the phone have ios 7? with ios 7 cannot restore the phone without your apple id password and even if u somehow restore it, the phone will not activate without entering the original owner's apple id password. So even if stolen, the phone will be just paperweight for the thief

Yup, IOS 7 and I enabled restrictions as well ......

My daughter only gets hand-me-downs. She was given a HTC Desire from me after I upgraded to S3, and recently she got the S2 from my wife after my wife upgraded to Note 3. My daughter still carries the HTC Desire to school which has a street value of $10 + $10 prepaid card = maximum of $20 while S2 with street value of $150 is for shopping days. This way, we can limit the temptations for others to target young children. I came out with this arrangement after my other daughter lost her wallet in school to a petty thief.

Bro, hope your daughter is alright. End of the day, what matters most is that the family is safe and sound.

Having said that, if this happened to me I'd hunt the mofo down to the ends of the world and whack him. Phone can be replaced but not my personal collection of peektures!
