Physicist - Hope I didn't cause offense by jumping on you on your choice of language. I was sure that what you said and what you meant were 2 entirely different things. The nature of the net is that nuances can be hard to convey in words alone.

Why not do it the easy way, as I did? Start with some local greetings, like making enquiries of the other person's mother. Great conversation starter. Hokkien is a great dialect for that sort of stuff.

I used the mother enquiry line once, i got slapped. Must of said it wrong!!

Singlish im au fais with, hokkien not even close.

You should hear them at meetups!! not a clue whats going on, LOL
