Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

Hi friends,

I just bought a new pre owned 320i but don't really like it's colour - Silver. Thinking of spraying it black or gunmetal grey. Was wondering if you have any advice on this - heard that they have to take out the entire engine to do the job - that's a concern isnt it?

Also, which shop should I consider?

Many thanks :)

Hi Thinkbig,

don't think needs to take-out engine unless you want to.........

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

want to what ?
do a transplant to replace N46 with S65 engine? :nehnehhh:

change colour is a little bit tricky especially the internal spray. better check with the spray paint workshop what need to be removed and what not
and after change colour, no matter how you explain it people will "suspect" other thing like kena accident big time.
when you sell, if the car is reaching 7-8 years mark should be no problem la as the remaining depreciation should be pretty low liao

go with your heart. if you don't like the current colour then change to your love colour :)

Just do it - drive in a colour that you love!

I changed colour at SWC and have no complaints with the workmanship.

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

Do you have to inform LTA when you change the color? If not wrong, the color is mentioned in the log card or exists somewhere in LTA's record books.

Not sure if it is mandatory, but you can update the colour quite easily via One Motoring.

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

I dont think you need to report on changing of colour
I happen to change my car colour on my previous ride, but no problem
Good luck in your colour change

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

The ancient suspicion that spraying a car because "kenna major accident before" is grossly outdated. If I kenna major accident, I will spray back same colour and bluff that it's accident free. Why spray different colour??

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

The last time my friend did a new spray paint job on his E90 320i very mafun... Have to buy door's window rubber seals la, dunno front and rear windscreen rubber seals la, etc... cos all parts have to be removed for respray... then those rubber seals will be spoiled aft remove... If you ask workshop to buy will cost more, so he went to Eng Soon to get... A couple of hundreds of dollars...

SWC is a good workshop if you are willing to pay premium price. However, premium price offers you premium quality. I have repaired my car and install kit with them and a very satisfied customer. Price quoted by Mike are inclusive of everything such as GST, parts that need to be replaced if there's a need etc.

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

No leh, Mike's price for me never include GST, which is very siong because of the premium price... :(

But to be clear, I have no complaints about workmanship!

Re: Spray paint my new 2nd hand 320i

Sounds Good man! I'll call him up soon :)

Yeap premium price for premium service is okay. No point paying cheap prices and we get lousy work done on our bimmers ya? :)

Just Google Sin Wee Chuan, you will be able to get a few reviews on their good service... Do note that good service comes with a price, but it is definitely worth it....

I recently enquired at Juzz Colours and was quoted $1.8k for same colour exterior respray and $2.5k to change colour (for E90). These prices are for premium quality clearcoat which is supposedly more resistant to bird sh!t etching and such. For OEM quality clearcoat prices will be about $200 cheaper. I was shown a few cars that were freshly resprayed and I must say the workmanship is good. You can probably use these prices as a reference when visiting other respray shops.
