Squeaking Clutch

Hey Folks

I have a squeaking clutch.... whenever I depress the clutch pedal or release it, there is this "Eeeeee....." sound. Took it to PML recently to have the linkages oiled/greased, but the squeaking sound is still there. Told the SA and he said they have already oiled/greased the linkages at the clutch pedal and he might have to drop the exhaust to check.... :whythis: the cause of the squeak.

Do BMW manual boxes (Getrag) work on cable or hydraulic piston?

Any ideas?

Thanks

(BTW, pardon my spelling on the title, could not edit the title)

Re: Squeaking Clutch

Seems like is like very small issue. It happened all the times for manual clutch. Actually all BMW clutch input is using hydraulic type. The cable is a very conventional type. Using hydraulic is lighter when you clutch in. In you case juzz need to lubricate the lingkage or join at the clutch pedal which join to the clutch input.

For starters, thanks to Ryan for helping me edit my spelling on the title of this thread.

Skyline,..... after sending you to work yesterday and leaving my car at PML for 1 day to rectify the squeak...... I though everything will be sui sui. Alas,.... truth be told, that is not so..... now besides the squeak got another "thud" sound everytime the clutch is depressed. I took a torch and peep at the section under the steering column/dash. Noticed that the panels covering the arm of the clutch pedal is not fitted back properly. PML really CMI :furious: , where is the QC before telling me that my car is ready for collection. Tsk tsk............

To all manual drivers, (particularly BMWs), do you have any experience with squeaking clutches?

Re: Squeaking Clutch

Quite normal, the squeak comes from either the clutch pump master or slave cylinder; nothing to do with the linkages. Mine comes on and off occasionally; sometimes its the master cylinder or slave cylinder squeaking. I suppose this is due to wear and tear....when was the last time you changed the the clutch pumps?

Hey dude, never change clutch pump before. Car is still fairly new. About 1 1/2 years old. Its an E90 320iM. Will the clutch pump fail so soon?

Thanks

Re: Squeaking Clutch

Could be due to the piston bores at the master or slave cylinder wearing out. As we know, brake/clutch fluid is very thin so there is hardly any lubrication. Got mine changed and it was squeakless; but the nuisance came back about 1 year later...on and off. Squeak goes off if you leave the car in the porch for few days but always squeaks if used everyday....maybe changing the fluid helps?

Thanks dude.
Went back to PML this morning to have them refit the panel under the dash. 5 minute job ;) so now all that is left is the squeak :))

They have ordered the entire "Input Clutch" assembly for me instead of trying to grease the linkages again. :) Hopefully this works.

Also asked the Service Advisor about the clutch fluid and he told me that it is the same reservoir as the brake fluid.......hhmmmmm... I wonder...... but what do I know ;)

You are right! Whenever I travel and left the car un-used for a couple of days, there is no squeak when I get back..... interesting.

Re: Squeaking Clutch

Well, if it only squeaks as you cluth-in when the engine is running; it could be the clutch throw-out or release bearing. Otherwise, if it squeaks with a dead engine it has to be the clutch pumps. Yes, the same reservoir serves the brake and clutch system. Would be good to change the brake fluid after a year; they absorb moisture and deteriorates. Looks like you are getting somewhere with PML...Good luck
