Tiered ARF, borrowing cap blamed as luxury makes tumble by over 80%

Measures to cool the car market introduced in last year's Budget have hit luxury brands the hardest, with some reporting a sales drop of more than 90 per cent in the second half of last year.

Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin and Lamborghini were among the most affected.

Sales in the second half of the year plunged by 92 per cent for Ferrari; 91 per cent for Rolls-Royce; 88 per cent for Aston Martin; and 85 per cent for Lamborghini.

"It was a disaster in the second half," said Mr Andre Roy, chief executive of Wearnes Automotive, which represents brands like Bentley, Jaguar and McLaren. "If this was meant to slow down the sales of supercars, it has worked."

Huat ah! Heypi times ahead. BMW drivers will feel like swinging dicks again, because Toyotas and Hyundais will once again rule Singapore's pothole-filled roads!

Analysts are all bullshit. If they are so good, most would be driving a bm already

Hearsay one analyst tried to apply for a job and during the interview, he was asked why he didn't drive. Started to show off and went into a detailed explanation of depreciation, why cars are a waste of money, etc. Poor guy, didn't know the interviewer was a petrol head...

I agree. BM owners must be good.

Re: ST: Luxury car sales stall on higher tax, loan curb

Those economists also another bullshit lot. If really so good, they would have predicted that 2008 to 2009 will have recession. When recession happens, they then give all sorts of powderful theory

Re: ST: Luxury car sales stall on higher tax, loan curb

FYI, most, if not all, bear markets are triggered by an unforeseen catalyst. Go check out history. That means very few people can see the timing of exact impact and magnitude. Some will warn of a major recession coming, but you wouldn't sell house sell car to capitalise on future lower prices, would you? In short, you will never respect the a view which does not resonate with your course of action, would you?

All bull markets are predicated on macro => then micro outlook.

Hence the bull songs are easier to sing.
