Stock Dyno run on a Z4M Coupe

Went down to Rhommel (romtuning.com) this morning to do a baseline dyno run prior to installing a new exhaust. The only mods i have are (18" ultraleggeras, brembo BBK and some interior cabin stuff)

Shaun was there to verify my results as well.

I read somewhere that the DME on our cars is different from the E46 M3s and hence there are differences, but a 20hp gain from paper specs is making me surprised nonetheless. Now the fear is whether my exhaust will make me lose power (crossing my fingers it's not). The install will be completed tomorrow. Has any other M3 done a baseline dyno without mods? Will appreciate your graphs.

Will break in the exhaust and run another dyno to measure performance figures to see whether there's actual gain or loss.

Car is completely stock. Running on Shell 98 (not vpower)

Motor power: 363.3 hp
Engine power: 295.9 hp
Max torque: 406.5 nm

29.1 deg / 84.3 fth

Corr factor:
1.072

Enjoy.

Pretty amazing results, first time i see a dyno result that beats factory claims by a big margin....343bhp/365Nm stock..

Awesome monster, Ryan. :)

Ryan, I would say for comparison try to compare only the wheel power curve to other cars on the same dyno. Correction to get to crank power or torque is often not accurate and will vary (and widely enough) from car to car especially since it involves many factors.

If you could get more Z4Ms and E46 M3s on that same dyno and compare the wheel power plots, that would be the most useful. Second best is those types of cars on other dynos of roughly the same type cos you can still compare the shapes - especially after you put the new exhaust on.

Don't worry about what the new exhaust losing or gaining.. the mix of factors that have gone unmeasured means there's no point taking a guess at what it will do. If the manufacturer has done its homework then at the very least you'll gain up top even with no retune. Best case is you gain from from low-mid, right to redline, but that is unlikely cos that that would mean the stock exhaust is really bad, or the stock tune is too safe, or the new state after no retune is too unsafe.. or some mix of those. Either way it'll be good to do the final new exhaust run with wideband just to check... come to think of it should have done it stock if there was that option.

Anyway the spread of power your car has is impressive.. the CSL is also known for having a wide spread of power. Very drivable except right around throttle-full close/opening in sport mode where it flares up hahah. If BMW focused it into a peakier less easy to drive engine, it would make considerably more power.. Aftermarket guys do it to high levels with cams, headwork, raised engine speed, etc. but the gain/dollar isn't worth it esp for a road car.

Very nice and broad torque curve. Impressive for a stock vehicle.

60-80 bux .....for a couple of runs

Woah, the price has really come down a lot compared to the days when ST Power had the sole dyno locally huh.

Awesome Ryan! S54 is among my all time fav engine and one i considered to be the best 6 cycl around! Once our Changi track comes up in 2012 and if i have any spare $$ lying around, the Z4 M Coupe would be my ideal dedicated track machine!!
