Stupid drivers

As you all know, a lot of people in Singapore are very inconsiderate. When they open their car doors, they don't take care not to knock their door against the neighouring car. That's why Singapore cars have so many dings and dents on their doors.

To minimise this problem, I usually park far away in one corner. Whenever possible, I will opt for a single lot with no other lots beside it. However, I realised that often times, some stupid drivers will still park beside my car when there are dozens of consecutive empty lots nearby.

What's the psychology behind this stupidity is really beyond my comprehension. This usually happens for non-luxury cars.

I am super anal about dings and dents as they are eyesores, and to knock them back costs money! So whenever I see such stupid actions, I will curse under my breath. Damn pissed!

Can totally understand how you feel about it but there's really so much you can do to prevent. I'm just as anal but still, had my fair share from careless drivers/passengers:(

People have opened their doors into my mirrors\door when I was sitting IN the car :( . Rolled down my window once and gave the woman a earful. Her hubby wasn't pleased

Driver and me inside our own cars. He parked and could even see me sitting in the car and then can open the door hard into my wing mirror. Big Scratched it
how idiotic stupid can someone be.
Gave up, have to suck it up like you say.

I was also present on one of these incidents. The driver kept his rear passenger car door open (beside my car), and went about doing stuff in his car. The strong wind blew the door and hit onto my car body near the fuel cap area. Resulted in a paint chip. The driver came out and immediately exclaimed it was the "wind's fault"?! I was dumbfounded... (I told him off and drove away).

I realized partly why this is. Park Pilot or Park Assist or whatever variations you wanna call it. The system will need to have a car to be the pole for the park pilot to do its work...

haha, i like the park pilot theory. our drivers developed a reliance on poles to do parking right from the time they started taking driving lessons, and now our precious cars served as their poles. thanks for all the sharing. I feel better after know some of you guys had it worse than me (not being sadistic though). i think even malaysians have better driving etiquettes than us. at least i know that their slower vehicles will keep to the left and not hog the right lane as if they own the whole road.

Not forgetting some idiots who parked so near till I can't even enter my car. I have to literally climb from front passenger seat.

Its not fully the 'other' driver's fault.

Have you seen the SIZE of our parking lots compared with other countries?

When constructing a building, developers/HDB contractors have to follow guidelines for carpark allocation. It is stated that each carpark lot must be of a MINIMUM size and so on. The law makers must be thinking everyone else are still driving 1940s VW beetles /Daihaitsu Charades... and car sizes have not changed since the Flintstone days

So what happens? To save money/profit-more, they will stick to the MINIMUM size. Same concept goes for 3-5room HDB/condos, thats why we are seeing smaller and smaller units and still classify as 5-room flat (HORRORS!!!)

My gosh, I have even seen lots with pillars/walls on ONE or BOTH sides of the lot and positioned such that if you park reversed in, you will not be able to open the door properly to exit.

The law makers for this MIN size thingy should be lined up for the firing squad!!!!

True that too but I think in land-scarce/squeeze Lion City, there is just so much space we can accommodate. I still think drivers and passengers have to be mindful and considerate. Just unfortunately, some are not:(

Agree on the architect and engineering to design smaller slimmer stronger pillars so that you can open your car doors after parking and not those big slabs. Makes me wonder if they park cars at hdb lots.

Haha, just noticed a dink and paint scrap off on 1 of the door, just within 1 month of re-spraying the whole car...
