Re: The Barclays Premiership / Champions League Thread
“It is our strong held belief, having gone over the facts of the case, that Luis Suarez did not commit any racist act... It is also our opinion that the accusation by this particular player was not credible.” Suarez faces a separate F.A. charge over an alleged abusive hand gesture in a Dec. 5 Premier League game, had based his defense on cultural differences, the British Broadcasting Corp. reported, saying he was unaware that language that is acceptable in Uruguay is viewed as racist in Europe. Liverpool said it “finds it extraordinary” that Suarez could have been found guilty on Evra’s word alone and will study the commission’s full ruling before deciding its next course of action. The club added that its player may have been prejudged.
Three years ago this month, Patrice Evra was damned by an FA regulatory commission for supplying “exaggerated and unreliable” evidence following allegations of racism during the infamous ‘Battle of the Bridge’ with Chelsea groundstaff in April 2008. On that occasion, Evra was fined £15,000 and hit with a four-match suspension as punishment for his part in the post-match brawl at Stamford Bridge, following United’s defeat against Chelsea, which resulted in United's coaching staff claiming the Senegal defender was called a “------- immigrant” by Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell.
Some vindication going on to even out things?
