Thinkware F770 battery drain issue

Congrats Bro. U have a ride (f10) so smart that it will auto cut your car cam when it detects a system drawing high level of current from the battery. F770 is definitely not one u wanma go for unless if u are ready to throw in approx $650-700 for the cam, and another $300-450 for the battery pac (back up batt), unless if u choose to go direct for power from cam to car battery hence risk shortening of car battery life.

It was a painful lesson for me as i find myself falling from one trap to the other. I would really suggest that you do your homework VERY well before deciding which brand/model to go for. So far i had only (bad) experience with F770 that im sticking with since i had already dumped in so much money jus to get the problem resolved, to share with u.

U need to find out:
1. Whats your budget.
2. Does your f10 model cuts system that draws high power from car batt. Apparently mos f10s does.
3. Do u really require high tech functions or just clear picture quality will do.

Answering to these will give u a clear picture of which brand/model u should go for.

Cheers

Thanks for the detailed reply and sorry to hear of your bad experience. Am considering iRoad following another friend's recommendation after he installed it into his F10 523i without issue but wanted to learn from everyone else's experience before final decision.

Im also looking forward to hearing more from fellow f10 owners... cos im considering switching to Q9 as i intend to upgrade to 4 cameras with additional ones by the sides... :)

Yes bro. My idea was to purhase 2 sets of Q9s and use both sets of main cams for front and back, and the back cams for the sides. Cos I already have a 13,600ma battery pac, so im not worried at all about the car battery drainage issue. The back cams were more compact, so installing on the door wouldn't look too bulky or obstructing...

Do note the cut off voltage setting in the car camera Must be set at not less than 12.3v. That'll help conserve some power for starting of engine when its parked for a prolonged period. Our car can fire up at 12.1v but through various tests and observations, it was deemed that the cam system does not analyse the power accurately, hence setting at 12.3v was just to be safe and ensuring there is enough power. We also have to take into consideration that after the system cuts off the power, other parts of the car is still drawing current from whats left thereafter.

That's an awesome tip and insight! Thank you for sharing.

I am also considering iroad q9 ....just like to check can we turn off the ADAS alerts individually or totally off. Seen the video in YouTube....keep beeping. I probably need this function of lane departure when driving long distance.

Looking at blackvue as well...only thing that interest me is the cloud function and notification remotely. but think of paying over 1k turns me down abit

I installed I road v9 on my F10 no problems with battery. Even if I go off for a couple of days to a week. But what I found annoying is the wifi. If I forget to turn off my phone's wifi and bring the phone into the car it goes into the iRoad wifi and my data will not work unless I remember to turn off my phone's wifi. Other than that no problems

What's the most hassle-free car cam for installation? Can anyone care to comment please? Thanks.

I recently installed the Thinkware F770 on my X3. The guy came to my place and set it up in under 2 hours. Very nice chap and job is done well. Everything working well so far.

Paid $578 for front & back cameras

You can find him on carousell.com/blackboxurcar
