Re: Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013 - Overview

Mock not bro, take many many but only share one....

Re: Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013 - Overview

I went to TAS, found it not really nice, but will continue support to keep the car show scene going and hopefully rise to greater heights in future.

BTW, its been awhile since there was a motor show, usually its a bi annual event but I remember the last motorshow had a alot of brands pull out and left with some brands only. Is the Motorshow no more? Anyone knows?

Good thing i did not pay to enter and was not there to see cars. One exhibitor told me many asked her where the other hall was.

Re: Tokyo Auto Salon Singapore 2013 - Overview

Our exhibitions and shows are damn boring, unlike the vibrant one overseas.

Once I went to some Lifestyle & Furniture exhibition and before I could walk 5m into the hall, I got accosted by 4-5 Interior Designer firm touts and they just wun let go....knn

Yup agreed, SEMA for example is damn good and the Geneva Motorshow also damn nice. Sighs, I guess singapore market really too small, nobody bothers to do a good show here.

Thank you for your invaluable reviews on the varied genres of exhibitions held in Singapore in recent times.

Okay. She looks haggard nowadays. Having said that, she is still prettier than most of the Race Queens.

Part 3 - The JDM Connection II

Following up on the previous post of the cars which made their way down from Japan, we now have probably the most nondescript looking car that was brought down. It might not look like it, but this "Mugen RR Advanced Concept" is a very rare machine indeed. A one-off creation from Honda's in house tuners, Mugen.

Full of (probably really expensive) Mugen parts, the real appeal of the RR Advanced is, you guess it, all body panels have been replaced by parts made out of CF. Keeping the weight on the down low, and the expenses on the high up. I'm sure Honda fans wouldn't mind having one in their garage though.

Another Honda, but this time from Spoon. Built to celebrate Spoon's 20 years of race entries, this NSX-R GT was shortly after, entered in the Macau GP. A race car through and through, this NSX has had it's internals fully worked over and it's weight reduced to 980 kilos.

Here's a video of the NSX-R GT's Macau outing.

Another heavy hitter but this time off the tracks and onto the streets. The warriors of the wangan, Abflug brought out a GTR with their signature wild aero.

Although not as radical as their 90's creations, this GTR still looked tough and battle ready.

Speaking of aero, you can't mention aerokits without the name Varis popping out. Also bringing along a GTR.

Those race inspired slats behind the front wheels are apparently catching on as the new "in" thing. Do you like it?

It's quite strange to see Veilside having such a small display area, especially if you have seen their stands over in Japan. Shown in pretty much all corners of the internets, no prizes for guessing the base car beneath the extensive bodywork of the Veilside 4509.

An odd but still welcomed addition to the show is RK Design's Corvette. Odd because well, there's no chance a street legal Corvette will ever be running on our roads which makes totally zero commercial value for bringing it over. But welcomed because there really is no harm for us to look at a ZR1 right?

Rounding off the coverage of the Japanese tuners is this trio of VIP cars. As with all car cultures, the VIP world has pretty much evolved to a point where there isn't really one singular style to follow. With fresh ideas bringing forth their own take on the Bippu scene, which has now evolved from the murdered out mafia looking cars and have branched out to cars with a more sporty style and more recently, itasha-ed Bippu rides running oni-kyan stance!

Such a style wouldn't have even been dreamed off just a couple of years back. It does go to show, how much more the Japanese are willing to push in terms of defining their own style in what had always been seen as a more "traditional" scene.

Keeping it still rather sedate is this Celsior (Lexus LS to you and me) from JobDesign. With the popularity of air suspension, cars are now running lower than ever.

Taking it up a notch is K-break, bringing along their chopped roof Aristo.

DSC04735.jpg:original

DSC04745.jpg:original

With it's bright orange paintwork and equally bright interior trim, you can't miss it.

With the colorful graphics, it's a really nice and light hearted take on the genre. Something we are begining to see more of.

A car i saw last year in Tokyo, the slammed oni-camber Crown patrol car from Car Sense.

DSC04416.jpg:original

This time, it has some itasha graphics added on, to make it even more of a caricature of itself.

It does put a smile of people's faces though!
