Got my root canal done yesterday at a specialist dental clinic. Very professionally done. Only one-session treatment. The clinic does nothing but root canal.
Well equipped and cosy place. Clinic: Simply Endodontics @ Wheellock place level 5. Slightly less than $1K.
Parking $ex at Wheellock though. No complimentary parking coupon.
Do continue to monitor the health of whatever remains for the next 6-12 months.
I had mine done. Specialist referral by Mount E. Wound healed but somehow managed to get infected.
I only knew about it when I bit something hard. This caused a swell in my gums at the area where the root canal was done.
Prognosis seems to be that a hairline crack developed when I bit something hard. This is not identifiable on X-Ray due to the nature of the hairline crack. This hairline crack may then provide an avenue for the bacteria to attack the gums.
While I'm not a dentist, this was the impression I received short of all that medical jargon hence what I'm telling you now may not be actual facts.
I had to do another surgery where my gums were sliced opened and infected area removed.
I still have surgery photo taken by the Specialist but I shall not post it on forum due to its graphic nature.
The conclusion is to take care when chewing. If the root or whatever that's left were to crack, I was told ultimately both crown and root will be removed. There after, your options are to either leave it empty aka no crown or root, or do an implant. I suspect implants are classified cosmetic in nature and "I think" medisave does not covers this.
To give you an idea in terms of cost for implants. My father did about 50% replacement in implants. It cost about $35-$40k at Mount E. If root or tooth remains, you need to factor in between 3-6 months recovery period once root or tooth is extracted in order for gums to fully heal. After which, the screw or whatever medical term is used is inserted. There is also a recovery period for that before final the procedure is complete.
Pardon my vague memory. I hope this helps.
