TP's new digital camera

A car triggered the digital cams last night (PIE to Changi) at around 90km/h (on my speedo). I think they have lowered the trigger points quite considerably with the new digital cameras. I remember the KPE ones triggering around 90km/h for a 70 km/h zone.

What I do not understand is the lowering of the official speed from 90km/h to 80km/h near the camera zone... on a straight expressway! and then push back the speed to 90km/h after a couple of hundred metres. What's the point?

With the Singaporean driving pattern, many will slow down drastically in the camera zone area and this can cause accidents. At least with a constant speed, the driver will more or less know the speed is within the zone and won't chut stunt.

correct me if im wrong, but the next 90km/h is at the Paya Lebar - Eunos area, in between clementi ave 6 exit till there is always 80km/h.

You're probably better at this than I am, though I thought I saw a 90km/h sign just before the Stevens exit.

However, my point is why lower the speed on a straight? Even is there is a slight ascent and descent before the cams, lowering the speeds by 10km/h is not going to help anyone.

Same goes for the KPE, just before the cams, speeds are lowered to 70km/h for?

If they want to create awareness of a speed camera, they should make the speed camera/trap sign more prominent like in all other countries (well, 1st world countries at least). Some of these signs are always obstructed.

My guess is because of the number of slopes and a sharp corner later at steven road's area. Even at 80km/h, there are many accidents at that stretch of road. I was lucky enough to escape from one accident during wet weather when 2 cars away, the driver did not manage to brake in time, hitting the car behind me.

KPE there is only one bend with 70km/h speed camera, that's a sharp bend. The rest are all 80km/h.

But of course human nature is such that when you see a 80km/h speed camera, you will hit the brakes and drive at 70. That's the irritating part and one of the main factor why shitty accidents occur. Especially the one at AYE NUS -> Changi's speed camera.

Absolutely agree with you. The TP has already made known (when the KPE opened and the 70km/h trigger fiasco happened - I was one of the 2000 over drivers summoned that day) that the typical trigger point is 15-20km/h.

Even with bad calibration, your speedo cannot be off by more than 20km/h (but if it is, you can really fight the case with TP, bring your car down to them to verify) so I don't understand why motorists must slow down so drastically.

Now with the new cameras on the PIE, motorists slow down to ridiculous speeds like 50km/h or worse 40km/h (PIE to Tuas in the mornings) on the right most lane! Almost every day when I use that expressway, I can hear cars e-braking, horning, flashing lights. Inevitably, it causes congestions and provide statistics that the stretch of road falls under the "Need ERP" category cos the speed are so low.

Re: TP's new digital camera

Let me summarize. Speedcam is wrong because we should be entitled to speed

All I know is that on this side of the Causeway, my LIM button is seeing a lot more use than my M1 button.
